Orlowski wins Q3 and dashes Rheinard’s title hopes

One hand on the trophy for Orlowski who still has a chance to TQ the event!

The third round of Cayote Modified qualifying was event changing. Ronald Völker made some small mistakes here and there and only scored a P5 for the round.

Marc Rheinard was leading the race for 15 of the 20 laps – until he rolled his car in lap 16 to lose one second of time – a very costly second…! Michal Orlowski jumped into the lead and took the win with the fastest overall runtime of the weekend (as the track was very fast in the morning).

With the result from Q3, Marc Rheinard has no chance to TQ the race anymore which also means that his hunt for the overall title has come to an end as there is no more chance to beat Orlowski on points. A big break for the Polish Schumacher driver who just needs to finish in the top 4 now to seal his third consecutive ETS Modified title.

Behind Q3 winner Orlowski and Rheinard, we saw Simon Lauter, Sören Sparbier, and Ronald Völker completing the top five.

Kriz Jun. close to seal overall TQ in Wiener Neustadt

In Q3 of the Pro Stock class, Jaroslav Kriz Jun. showed that his win in Q2 was not based on luck – it was based on speed and performance. The young Xray racer from Slovakia took another impressive win ahead of his teammate Adam Izsay.

Awesomatix driver Olivier Bultynck had a better pace than yesterday and was only one second behind Kriz Jun. in Q3.

Mark Valent and Sören Sparbier completed the top 5 in Q3. One thing is clear for now – the TQ will go to the Xray team. But who will grab it – Kriz Jun. or Izsay?

Buchhalt close to FWD pole position at ETS Season Finale

After winning Q2 was a little surprise, Matheo Buchhalt just pressed the “repeat” button and did the same in Q3 of FWD qualifying on Friday evening.

He won again ahead of Kevin Schmid and Phil Langner, and it was Adam Southgate who posted the forth quickest time ahead of Matej Dobnikar. Matheo Buchhalt is only one run away from his very first overall TQ at the ETS – will he seal it in Q4?

Three different TQ`s as Ehrbar wins the Friday evening round!

The last heat on Friday evening (before the big drivers dinner) went to Xray driver and ETS 40+ champion David Ehrbar. He won Q3 with an advantage of one second over Manuel Stankowitz.

Eric Anderson was another two seconds behind and scored a third place for the round. Philipp Stadler was fourth quickest while Toni Mateo rounded out the top 5.

The battle for the overall TQ will be on the line in Q4 as we have seen three different TQ drivers so far with Stankowitz, Anderson, and Ehrbar.

Anthes takes Q3 – decision for overall TQ on Saturday

RC Maker driver Daniel Anthes took the win in the third round of 21.5 Stock qualifying. The German won the heat 0.2 seconds ahead of Kristian Jensen who would for sure have loved to win and seal the overall TQ.

Behind Anthes and Jensen we saw Ulrich Donger in third, Daniel Hiesch in fourth, and Krystian Kopacki in fifth spot. With three rounds of qualifying complete, the pressure on David Reip and Cedric Gridelet is not getting less. They are ranked in sixth and seventh place overnight while their hardest competitor Kristian Jensen is overnight TQ. The scenario is getting even more exciting now!

Hudy dominates and takes early morning Q3

Martin Hudy was on point in the third round of Matrix Formula qualifying. He once again had a huge gap to the rest of the field and it looks like nobody can match his pace right now. Behind Martin Hudy is was David Ehrbar and Jacques Libar rounding out the top three. With one more round to come, Martin Hudy has the best shot so seal the overall pole position here at Arena Nova in Austria.

100 ETS Races – a milestone is reached….!!!

The Finale of ETS Season #18 2025/26 was ETS race number ONE HUNDRED (100). What an unbelievable number….

To celebrate this, the ETS crew organized a little surprise for Scotty, Uwe, Hartmut, and all the others who are involved in the ETS since the very beginning.

During the drivers dinner, a nice video was played out containing many greetings and congratulations from former ETS racers and personalities of our sport.

The crowd was watching with a lot of excitement and we could also see a lot of emotions in the faces of Uwe and Scotty. It was really nice and the atmosphere was second to none.

The assistant from Wiener Neustadt`s major, Niki Doppler, was in attendance as well and mentioned that the city is very happy and proud to have the ETS as a fixed part of their anual programme now.

To round out the perfect evening, a special t-Shirt was handed over to Scotty and Uwe to never forget this milestone of 100 ETS races which is just amazing.

After that, the big tombola raffle was going on and all the frequent ETS racers received a special gift.

ToniSport supported the drivers dinner with a sponsoring and added 2 barrels of beer, which was topped by another one sponsoerd by the local 1. MRC Wiener Neustadt club around Sascha Klug. We hope that everybody enjoyed this fantastic night in Wiener Neustadt.

Völker wins again, Orlowski misses TQ run by four tenth, Ronnefalk grabs strong P3, Rheinard only fourth

The second round of Modified qualifying saw once again Mugen driver Ronald Völker taking the win. This time, it was Michal Orlowski who was in second place – only four tenths behind Völker. But as the race was finished, Orlowski (fastest lap of the race 15.292) came down the drivers stand with a very disappointed face when he walked to his Marshall position.

Also, Völker said after the run that he is somehow “happy to TQ again”, but that there “was so much on the table to do even better” as he was not 100% happy with his own driving. However, Völker secured his second TQ run for the weekend.

Behind Völker and Orlowski, we saw a very strong David Ronnefalk taking third place ahead of Marc Rheinard, Simon Lauter, Alexander Hagberg, Christopher Krapp, and Dominic Greiner. Ronald Völker is the overnight TQ in Austria with two more rounds of qualifying coming up on Saturday!

Kriz Junior steps on the big stage an wins Pro Stock Q2

He raced 21.5 Stock last year, and now managed to TQ the second round of Pro Stock qualifying at the ETS season finale in Austria – what a great story. “Jaroslav Kriz Junior is a name we will hear many times in the future” – this is what his Xray teammate Adam Izsay had to say about him…

Kriz Jun. took the win in Q2 b a gap of 0.6 seconds ahead of Mugen Seiki driver Sören Sparbier, Adam Izsay, Mark Valent, and Jan Ratheisky. Kriz Jun. also posted the fastest lap of the race (16.108) and his car looked very good on track. Can he claim the pole position tomorrow?

First ever ETS TQ run for Iris racer Matheo Buchhalt

Matheo Buchhalt came out on top of FWD Q2. The Iris racer from Austria had a super good pace and made no mistakes on the big and technical track layout at Arena Nova. It was a special moment for Matheo as he had never posted a TQ run at an ETS race before. Q1 winner Kevin Schmid finished two tenths behind Buchhalt, followed by Phil Langner, Luca Romondia, and Loris Buchhalt.

Stankowitz fights back and takes Q2 from Ehrbar and Anderson

The second round of 40+ Masters qualifying saw top seed Manuel Stankowitz performing on the highest level. Stankowitz is driving a Mugen MTC-3 since a couple of weeks, and he was absolutely flying around the track. Xray`s David Ehrbar and Awesomatix racer Eric Anderson had been super-fast as well, but Stankowitz was able to hang on and brought home the TQ with the small advantage of two tenths over Anderson. At qualifying half-time, the top 5 of the class are Stankowitz, Anderson, Ehrbar, Stadler, and Kolbel!

Dinger takes Q2 and mixes up the 21.5 Stock class

Ulrich Dinger won the second round of 21.5 Stock qualifying. Dinger, who raced in the 40+ Masters class most of the time, is now mixing up the 21.5 Stock class where he managed to win Q2 by 0,153 of a second ahead of Krystian Kopacki, and round one TQ Kristian Jensen. Awesomatix racer Daniel Hiesch and Cadric Gridelet completed the top 5 on Friday afternoon.

In the ongoing battle for the championship, things are swinging a bit into the direction of Kristian Jensen. He is 6 points behind Reip in the standings but as Reip (currently 8th) and Gridelet (currently 6th) are both struggeling a bit, Jensen can have some real hope again to lift the big trophy on Sunday. Can Reip find his mojo again and move up the rankings?

Hudy sets new TQ time and wins second round of qualifying

After losing Q1 to David Ehrbar, Martin Hudy was on top of his game in Q2 in which he postet a new fastest overall runtime. Hudy won the heat by a massive gap over the rest of the field and is overnight TQ in the Formula class now. Behind Hudy and Ehrbar, it was Jacques Libar who took third place from the round in front of Robert Kampehl, and Andreas Stiebler!

Under the Hood – Ronald Völker`s Mugen Seiki MTC-3

Mugen Seiki lead driver Ronald Völker is rocking his MTC-3 touring car with great success in the 2026 carpet season. He won many races in the last couple of months, including ETS RD4 in Daun. Ronald`s MTC-3 is equipped with a prototype steel chassis from Mugen Seiki, as well as some nice 1up Racing uprgrade parts such as titanium screws, turnbuckles, and body stopper screws.

Since almost 20 years, Völker is powered by the “Blue is Better” brand LRP. This weekend, he is debuting a new LRP X23 Modified Motor which will become available in 2026 together with the also new FlowX 2 speed controller which he can use without a cooling fan (on carpet tracks). Ronald`s battery of choice is a powerful LRP 5200mAh full-length stick pack with a very low centre of gravity (LRP battery weight plate underneath).

The car is steered by a Highest L250 servo in combination with a FlySky Noble NB4 Pro+ radio and is topped off with a Lens Bodies Ghibli 3.0 body shell which Völker describes as feeling very good on track.

Völker ahead of Rheinard and Orlowski in Q1 at Arena Nova

Mugen`s Völker edges out the competition by 0.8 seconds, Rheinard scores a strong second place after disappointing seeding practice. Orlowski third after Q1!

Top seed Ronald Völker took the opening round of Cayote Modified qualifying. His LRP powered MTC-3 was fastest after lap one, but then he “missed a bit of overall traction” in the next laps and dropped back to third or fourth position while we saw the Awesomatix of Marc Rheinard popping up on top of the board.

Rheinard, who was only sixth quickest after seeding, had a great pace as well and was in a close fight with David Ronnefalk (Xray) and Michal Orlowski (Schumacher) for the lead.

As the race reached half-time, Völker`s set of tires came alive again and he could immediately post the hottest laps of the race (15.173) and a couple of 15.2`s to take over the lead again. Völker was totally in “the zone” and opened a gap of 0.8 seconds over Rheinard till the end.

Mugen`s Völker took the win after a great drive ahead of Marc Rheinard (Awesomatix), Michal Orlowski (Schumacher), David Ronnefalk (Xray), and Dominic Greiner (Serpent). Simon Lauter (Awesomatix), Christopher Krapp (Yokomo), Antoine Brunet (RC Maker), Alexander Hagberg (Xray), and Oliver Havranek (Xray) completed the top 10 after Q1.

Modified QUALY RESULTS

Xray strikes back as Izsay wins Q1 ahead of Sparbier and Kriz

Top seed Sören Sparbier saw a hard pushing AdaMi ZSAY in his rear-view mirror for the entire runtime of Q1. Jaroslav Kriz Jun. was super-fast as well with his Xray car and was in the mix on top of the board as well. These three drivers had been clearly the fastest on track and only ones posting 16.1 lap times (fastest lap from Sparbier 16.145).

After an intense five-minute run, Adam Izsay was the lucky guy walking away with the TQ points for the round. He won Q1 half a second ahead of Mugen Seiki`s Sören Sparbier and his Xray teammate Jaroslav Kriz Jun.

Schumacher`s Mark Valent was fourth fastest and the top 10 got completed by Tim Benson (Mugen Seiki), Jesper Rasmussen (Schumacher), Olivier Bultynck (Awesomatix), Louis Kretschmer (Awesomatix), Tobias Sutrich (ARC), and Kevin Schmid (Awesomatix).

Schmid takes Friday morning Q1 from Langner and Buchhalt

FWD QUALY RESULTS

The first round of FlySky Frontwheel qualifying was a close fight between top seed Kevin Schmid and Phil Langner. Schmid had a perfect run on the huge carpet track and won the heat with a gap of 1.5 seconds ahead of Langner, and the Iris car of strong driving Matheo Buchhalt.

Luca Romondia (ARC) and Dominik Reile (Iris) completed the top 5. Kevin Schmid looks very comfortable on track since he has arrived at Arena Nova – will he be the man to beat throughout the wekeend?

Awesomatix driver Anderson TQ`s the first round of Masters qualifying

US racer Eric “EA” Anderson took the win in the opening round of 40+ Masters qualifying. Anderson had a flawless run on track with his Awesomatix A800RR and won the heat with an advantage of 0.8 seconds over Xray`s David Ehrbar. A brilliant start into the weekend for Eric Anderson – the man behind the line of EAM Batteries.

Top seed Manuel Stankowitz was another second behind Ehrbar and took a solid P3 away from Q1 where he was followed by “comebacker” Renè Kölbel (Xray), and the Mugen of Philipp Stadler.

40+ Masters QUALY RESULTS

Top seed Jensen wins Q1 ahead of Dinger and Anthes

Championship contender Kristian Jensen had a perfect start into the day when he posted his first TQ run of the event. The Danish Xray driver was very fast (hot lap 17.087) and outpaced the rest of the field by 2.3 seconds (!). Ulrich Dinger took second for the round and was followed by Daniel Anthes, Cedric Gridelet, and championship leader David Reip.

The 21.5 Stock class is in a spotlight this weekend as the championship is still undecided. David Reip, Kristian Jensen, and Cedric Gridelet are the three drivers who can still win the trophy. If Jensen will manage to TQ and winthe race here at Arena Nova, David Reip must finish in the top 4 to still become champion!

Ehrbar leads impressive Xray 1-2-3-4-5 in Q1

Old and new Matrix Formula champion David Ehrbar took the win in the first round of qualifying. He had an advantage of 1.7 seconds over his “boss” Martin Hudy, who posted the fastest lap of the race laying down a 16.054. Michal Wojcik, Jacques Libar, and Chris Grenz completed an all Xray top 5 before we saw the Schumacher cars of Alexander Bremer (6) and Andreas Stiebler (7).

Völker, Orlowski, and Lauter – the top three after Thursday practice

The Cayote Modified class saw Ronald Völker continuing his strong 2026 carpet season. The Mugen Seiki factory driver was fastest over three consecutive laps with his MTC-3 and had the small advantage of 0.138 seconds over championship leader Michal Orlowski (Schumacher), the Awesomatix of Simon Lauter, his Mugen teammate Sören Sparbier, and the Xray of Swedish ace David Ronnefalk.

Marc Rheinard finished sixth for the day and the top heat for qualifying got completed by Dominic Griener (7), Lucas Urbain (8), Antoine Brunet (9), and Dominik Schmid (10).

Qualifying will start immediately on Friday morning and right now, it looks as we will see a battle between Völker, Orlowski, and Lauter for the top spots. Can Marc Rheinard improve form his current P6? He is still in a good championship position but needs to TQ and win the event to keep his title chances alive. Let`s head into qualifying!

Mugen`s Sparbier leads day 1 from Izsay and Bultynck

The Awesomatix Pro Stock class saw familiar names on top of the board. Last year`s Arena Nova winner Sören Sparbier was the fastest with his Mugen MTC-3 when he outpaced the Xray X4`26 of Adam Izsay by 0.279 of a second.

Our newly crowned Pro Stock champion Ollie Bultynck was third fastest with his Awesomatix A800RRm. Jesper Rasmussen (Schumacher) and Oliver Havranek completed the top 5 in the ultra-competitive Pro Stock class.

Schmid fastest after Thursday practice at Arena Nova

Kevin Schmid (Awesomatix) was the quickest FWD driver on Thursday when he set the pace in the first of the two seeding rounds. Schmid was two tenths faster than newly crowned FWD champion Phil Langner who was followed by ARC`s new kid on the block Luca Romondia. British ace Adam Southgate and former FWD champion Stefan Schulz completed the top 5.

Stankowitz is top seed for qualifying – can he fight for the win against champion Ehrbar?

Former 40+ Masters champion Manuel Stankowitz seems to be back in the game. The German “Iceman” posted the fastest three consecutive laps of the day with his Mugen Seiki MTC-3 and was four (!) tenths quicker than the current dominator and newly crowned champion of the class – David Ehrbar!

Mirco Thalheimer, Philipp Stadler, and Caspar Morgen rounded out the top five. We wxpect nothing than a very thrilling set of qualifying heats and we cabn`t wait for the Masters to lay dowen a great show at Arena Nova in the next three days!

Jensen dominates Thursday practice in Wiener Neustadt

Danish Xray driver Kristian Jensen opened his challenge for the 21.5 Stock title with a strong showing in practice. He was four tenths ahead of the competition, led by the German RC Maker driver Daniel Anthes who was second fastest ahead of French racer Aurelien Threhout. Ulrich Dinger finished fourth for the day while championship leader David Reip (RC Maker) was sitting in fifth place overnight. Cedric Gridelet from Belgium, who is also in the fight for the championship was only ninth fastest. Friday qualifying will be close in this class and there is still a lot to play for as we will crown a new champion on Sunday!

Xray`s Hudy on top of the Formula class after practice

Xray`s very own Martin Hudy was quickest in the Formula class and posted the fastest times in the last round of seeding practice. He was followed by three more Xray cars of David Ehrbar, Michal Wojcik, and Jacques Libar. Alex Bremer was the fastest “non Xray” driver and placed his Schumacher car fifth before the start of qualifying.

Season Finale – let`s crown some champions!

The eighteenth (!) season of the Euro Touring Series will come to an end this weekend with RD5 taking place at the amazing Arena Nova in Wiener Neustadt, AUT.

With another strong turnout of around 360 entries, the weekend will be fully packed of great action on track, funny moments in the pits, and some extra entertainment on Friday evening.

A huge tombola raffle will be on the programme together with the typical Austrian driver`s dinner and other “special highlights”.

Racing will be in the biggest focus as always, and therefore we like to remind you about some things you didn`t want to miss during the upcoming weekend…..!

Four titles already secured by amazing drivers

After ETS RD4 in Daun, four overall titles had been already taken. Olivier Bultynck (Awesomatix) secured his second Pro Stock title, Phil Langner (running Awesomatix in FWD) is FlySky Frontwheel Champion, and David Ehrbar (Xray) was putting the hammer down to seal both championships in 1up racing 40+ Masters and Matrix Formula. Once again – CONGRATULATIONS guys. Most of the podium positions are still wide open and we are excited how the weekend will unfold in these ETS racing classes.

Championship decisions in Modified and 21.5 Stock

Can Orlowski make it three in a row, or can Rheinard knock him off the throne? Völker is on a high as well and aims for victory!

The championship will be on the line at the same place where Schumacher`s superstar Michal Orlowski has celebrated his previous two ETS titles in the Modified class. Two years ago, he lifted the biggest ETS trophy for the first time and was overwhelmed by the emotions and all the people who came to experience this victory with him. One year later, at the end of Season #17, it had become “business as usual” for Orlowski who was on a massive ETS winning streak sealing his second overall championship.

Fast forward to 2026, Orlowski needs to deliver something again in Wiener Neustadt if he likes to make it three championship wins in a row. He will arrive to Arena Nova as the points leader but the championship is still wide open as Awesomatix star Marc Rheinard and Mugen Seiki`s Ronald Völker are still in the mix after the latest race results from Luxembourg and Daun.

However, Michal Orlowski still has all strings in his hands to take the title without any needs to hope for a miracle– something very important for a racing driver ahead of a decisive weekend!

Roughly explained: The possible scenarios…

Michal Orlowski (Schumacher) is still three points ahead in the championship standings (1202), but Marc Rheinard (Awesomatix) is still in contention to win his second ETS title after 2009/10 (!).

However, to make this happen, Rheinard needs to TQ and win the event (303 points) with Orlowski not finishing better than fifth.

This scenario would move Rheinard to a total of 1203 points and Orlowski would come short by one point, still counting a total of 1202. A TQ and win is the ONLY chance for Rheinard to snatch the title away from Orlowski in the last minute.

If Marc can TQ and win and Orlowski will finish fourth, both would have 1203 points. In this case, Orlowski would be our champion having scored more race wins (2) during the season. A top three result would make life easy for Orlowski as it will seal him the championship anyway – no matter what the others do.

Mugen Seiki ‘s Ronald Völker is also having a last chance for the title in Wiener Neustadt. If he can manage a TQ and win, he has a chance to go equal on points with Orlowski if the Polish Schumacher driver will not be in the top 4 at the same moment.

With his win in Daun, Völker somehow stepped back into the fight for the ETS crown. We cannot ask for a more thrilling season finale – can ‘t we?

Reip, Jensen, and Gridelet to battle for 21.5 Stock crown

The Hobbywing 21.5 Stock class will be in the spotlight as well in Wiener Neustadt as we are still looking for our new champion. Currently, RC Maker driver David Reip is leading the points by 6 points over last year`s vice-champion Kristian Jensen (Xray). But it might be the case that Reip`s biggest challenger (in theory) is currently sitting in tenth position.

Cedric Gridelet had two very good outdoor races in Apeldoorn (2nd) and Luxembourg (TQ & win), backed by a P12 on carpet in Daun. We are not sure how quick Gridelet can race on carpet and if he will be able to fight for a top spot at Arena Nova, but if he will do well, he has a very good chance to fight for the overall title against Reip and Jensen.

We don`t want to calculate all the possible scenarios for now, but we are sure that all the racers will lay down a great show. May the best driver win…

As you can see, the stage is set for another cool weekend of RC racing and a real showdown for the Modified and 21.5 Stock title at Arena Nova!

HARPER WINS SEASON FINALE TO LIFT SEVENTH EWS TITLE

Elliott Harper won the final round of the 2025/26 Essex Winter Series this weekend – which meant he also secured a record-extending seventh EWS title.  Elliott came into the finale tied on points with Kyle Branson, with Alex Thurston just two points back – meaning any one of the three could win the overall series title in the LRP Modified class.

Elliott was the class of the field from the start, setting the best time in the opening three qualifying rounds with his Schumacher to secure the TQ position and put the championship outcome firmly in his hands. Despite some mixed results throughout qualifying, the contenders would line up on the grid in championship order – Kyle starting second with his ToniSport-backed Mugen after winning the fourth qualifier when Elliott rolled his car off the track in the final minute, and Alex starting third for Mugen after second-place runs in Q2 and Q4.  Harley Eldridge led the Xray charge in fourth, mixing it with Kyle and Alex particularly in the opening few rounds, with Bailey Graves (Schumacher) rounding out the top five on the starting grid.

The single-leg A Final saw Elliott determined to win the championship in style – and he quickly opened a gap over the first few laps of the race. The first to effectively drop out of the championship battle was Alex – a mistake on the opening lap saw him drop down the field, promoting Harley up to third in the race. Elliott built a 3-second lead at the front, which allowed him to cruise to the victory and the championship win. Kyle stayed well ahead of the chasing pack – solidifying his position as the championship runner-up, but not able to bring the fight to Elliott this time.  Harley rounded out the podium on the day, securing her fourth in the standings. Daniel Robins moved up the grid in the finals to take fourth in the race, with Alex recovering to fifth place and thus completing the championship podium.

FINLEY COMPLETES STOCK CLASS SWEEP AS WHITELOCK TAKES RUNNER-UP SPOT

With Zak Finley wrapping up the Rush Stock class championship earlier in the season, the focus for today was on the second place battle. Whilst most expected Zak to complete a clean sweep of the season, he had his work cut out – after topping Q1, an incident with a backmarker in Q2 saw him on the back foot, but he managed to secure the overall TQ with a return to form in Q4. Behind Zak’s Zombie/ToniSport supported Awesomatix, Finley Whitelock lined up second ahead of Andy Murray – the two Schumacher drivers fighting to be best-of-the-rest in the rankings. Ethan Southall lined up fourth with another Schumacher, and Sam Nicholl’s MB Models-backed Awesomatix completed the top five on the grid.

Looking to complete his white-wash of the season, Zak led the A Final away and built a gap, as the fight for second place on the track was effectively the fight for second in the standings. Finley managed to soak up the pressure from Andy behind as the two cars ran never more than half-a-second apart for the entire run. Andy, the designer of the Schumacher touring car platform and former 1/12th Stock World Champion tried everything he could to pass Finley – who has demonstrated this winter he is a future star of on-road racing – but the younger driver showed great maturity in managing the race and keeping Andy firmly behind him.  The top three crossed the line in the order they started, with Ethan holding on to fourth and Adam Southgate moving up to fifth at the flag.

That meant Andy and Finley were tied on points for second place. After the organisers carefully checked the results, it took until the sixth level of the tie break process to split the two – with Finley being confirmed as series runner-up!

HILL’S FIRST EWS VICTORY TAKES HIM ONTO CHAMPIONSHIP PODIUM

With the ToniSport Front Wheel Drive champion, Dan Blake, absent from this event due to work commitments, there was a chance for someone else to stand atop the podium this time. Michael Chapman opened up with the best time in Q1, with BTCC Champion Jake Hill topping Q2. Jake then set the best time in Q3, with Thomas Looney taking the final qualifier – meaning Jake would start on pole position for the first time at EWS (but certainly not the first time he’s been on pole position for a race!). Thomas lined up second on the grid, with Stuart Collard having consistent runs to start third. Michael couldn’t repeat his Q1 pace and started fourth, with Nathan Parker rounding out the top five.

Jake led the A Final away and, whilst the top three circulated closely to start with, after about a minute Thomas dropped back a little from Jake and had to focus on defending the position from Stuart. While Jake then pulled away at the front, Thomas managed to fend off his fellow Southend clubmate to take second in the race, with Stuart third. Mark Burgess rounded out a great indoor season by moving up to fourth, and Nathan crossing the line in fifth.


Those results confirmed Michael as series runner-up, with Jake jumping up the order to take third in the points.

Right in time for the ETS season finale in Austria, Italian body shell manufacturer Lens Bodies has listed their second touring car body shell for Season #18 and beyond. The Ghibli 3.0 is available in the three versions Standard (0,7mm), Lightweight (0,5mm), and Ultra Light (0,4mm).

MODIFIED CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE DECIDED AT SERIES FINALE

The penultimate round of the Essex Winter Series took place this Sunday, and confirmed that the LRP Modified champion would once again be crowned in the Series Finale next month!

Kyle Branson opened proceedings, setting the best times in Q1 and Q2. The ToniSport-backed driver had now chosen to run a Mugen MTC-3 chassis for the rest of the winter, and it was a Mugen 1-2 as he led Alex Thurston in both the opening runs. Chris Grainger seemed to have re-found his form after a tough start to the winter by taking third in the first round and fourth in the second qualifier. Elliott Harper, a championship contender alongside Kyle and Alex, seemed on the back foot after a fifth and third place scores.

However, for Q3, Elliott found some pace with his Schumacher, posting a new fastest time to top the round ahead of Kyle and Alex, before a tight final qualifier again saw Elliott lead Kyle and Alex to secure the overall pole position. Chris would line up fourth with his Reedy Power-backed Schumacher, with Bailey Graves (Schumacher) rounding out the top five.

The A Final ultimately turned in to a dominant drive from Elliott, with the top three breaking away from the rest of the field in the opening laps, before Elliott then pulled away further to leave the two Mugen cars to fight over second and third. At the half-distance mark, Kyle made a small mistake, leaving just enough space for Alex to pounce and move up to second.  However, a few laps later, a lapped car then took out Alex, allowing Kyle back up into second in the race. That was the order they finished, with Elliott making it back-to-back wins and moving into the championship lead. However, Kyle’s gift of second place leaves him tied with Elliott, and now Alex two points behind – meaning the championship will be decided in March.

FINLAY ONCE AGAIN IN STOCK

Despite having the overall Rush Stock class championship wrapped up, Zak Finlay was determined to continue his run of success at EWS. The Zombie-backed driver took his Awesomatix to the pole position, topping three of the qualifying rounds. Schumacher designer Andy Murray demonstrated the continued development of his platform as he put in the best time in Q3 to line up second on the grid, and looking closer to Zak than he previously had at the earlier rounds of EWS. Finley Whitelock continues to make his mark on the UK Touring Car scene and lined up third on the grid for Schumacher, with Cosmic RC driver Adam Southgate in fourth and the Schumacher of Ethan Southall rounding out the top five.

It was a fight in the A Final between the top three qualifiers – Zak was able to quickly build a lead of about one second, but that fluctuated as Andy switched between defending his position from Finley, and attacking Zak ahead. Finley kept the pressure on and as the race approached the final minute, a small bobble from Andy allowed his team-mate through into second place, and that was the order they finished. Behind, Adam had remained close to the top-three battle throughout and then closed within a second at the buzzer and Ethan maintained his fifth place at the end. This means that Andy and Finley are split by two points ahead of the Season Finale in the fight to be runner-up to Zak in the standings.

BLAKE CONTINUES IN FWD

As in the Stock class, the ToniSport Front Wheel Drive class continues to be dominated by one driver as Dan Blake led every round of qualifying. Lining up second on the grid this time would be 2024 British Touring Car Champion Jake Hill, scoring his best ever qualifying result at EWS. Jake would be ahead of Michael Chapman, who had a chance to secure the championship runner-up spot at the event, with the rest of the top five on the starting grid made up of Mark Trinder and Stuart Collard.

Dan’s domination of the class continued in the final, leading the race from the start and seemingly building his gap every single lap. Jake maintained second place, with Michael a few seconds behind – not close enough to attempt any pass, but staying in touch so that if Jake made a mistake, Michael would have a chance to pounce.  The close FWD racing continued behind, with Nathan Parker making moves from ninth on the grid to move up – knowing that he needed to beat Michael to stand any chance of replacing him as series runner-up. Whilst Dan had a lonely race to stamp his authority on the final, Jake didn’t put a wheel wrong and took a well-deserved second place, with Michael rounding out the podium. Nathan had just too much work to do, but ended up fourth at the finish and Stuart finishing in fifth. That result should mean that Michael will take second place in the points standings and Nathan making the podium – but those positions will only be confirmed following next month’s finale.

The series concludes with Round 5 in March – which will include the overall championship presentations!
