Berkan Kilic is running the actual version of Mugen Seiki`s MTC2 touring car at ETS RD5 in Daun. Berkan had a great race at the last round in Neumünster where he raced for the first time at the ETS, finishing sixth overall in the Pro Stock A-Main. Here in Daun he is showing a strong pace in qualifying and we took the chance to look under the hood of his Mugen ride. His MTC2 is equipped with the Mugen Seiki aluminum chassis which carries more corner speed on the very technical track. The Active Rear Shock Towers from Mugen are also mounted in his car. They make it more forgiving when riding the curbs and they help for faster direction changes in the tight sections of the track. For the perfect weight balance Berkan`s car is equipped with the Mugen Seiki Motor mount weights. Mugen`s MTC2 car designer Robert Pietsch is helping Berkan with the setup work and the maintenance between the runs.

Ronald Völker won the opening leg of A-Mains here on Saturday evening in the huge sports hall of the Sporthotel Grafenwald in Daun/GER. He had a good start off the line, but Marc Rheinard was close behind him with his Awesomatix in the first couple of laps. Christopher Krapp followed them with another small gap and was hoping for something to happen right in front of his Yokomo car. After the first minute of the race, Ronald was able to stretch out his lead a few hundreds of a second, and lap after lap his advantage increased up to 0.7 seconds. Marc tried everything and pushed like hell to hold the pressure high, but in the end, Ronald took the win after an impressive run and crossed the line 0.490 seconds ahead of the Awesomatix lead driver Rheinard. Christopher Krapp (Yokomo) had a solid run to third place and Lucas Urbain (Awesomatix) was able to hold off a hard chasing Yannic Prümper (Yokomo). After his win in A1, Ronald Völker can be very optimistic for Sunday where he has the chance to celebrate his seventh overall ETS title in the modified class.
Simon Lauter started with an amazing start to finish victory in the triple A-Mains of the Xray Pro Stock class. No other driver of the high-class starter field was able to match Simon`s pace during the run and he won with a huge gap of 3 seconds ahead of his Awesomatix teammate Alex Kunkler. Frederik Mikkelsen took the biggest benefit out of a contact between Berkan Kilic (Mugen Seiki) and Max Mächler (Awesomatix) and moved up to the third spot. Louis Kretschmer (Awesomatix) finished fourth and Max Mächler took the fifth place. Simon Lauter is only one heat away from taking the win here in Daun. A victory that would help him a lot in the overall championship against Xray`s Alexandre Duchet who is racing in the United States this weekend! If you like to know how the race will finally end, follow our live stream and our reports on the eurorcseries.com website on Sunday as well!
In the Hobbywing Frontwheel class, Meik Niemann took the fifth heat win in a row at this weekend`s race. He won all four rounds of qualifying and it didn`t look like anybody had a serious shot to catch him in the first A-Main on Saturday evening. Steven Olsen finished second, and Sören Sparbier, Alexander Stocker and Jill Bartsch all crossed the line with a gap of 2 seconds to each other.
In the first A-Main of the Orca 17.5 Stock class, pole setter Dominik Reile took the win from wire to wire as he never looked back after the sound of the tone. Reile won with a gap of 1.3 seconds ahead of Max Körner who finished second ahead of Thomas Bemmerl, Roman Borschel and Daniel Pöhlmann. With A1 in the bag, Dominik Reile is only one win away from taking the overall victory here at ETS RD5 in Daun which would keep the championship alive between himself and Thomas Bemmerl. With A2 going on the line on Sunday morning, Reile will have sweet dreams after his great performance in A1 of the Orca 17.5 Stock class.
The first A-main of the ToniSport 40+ Masters class saw Toni Mateo converting his pole position into a win. The quick driver from Gran Canaria also had some luck on his side when his main contenders Caspar Morgen and Ulrich Dinger both made some mistakes in the first 2 minutes of the race. Mateo took A1 with a gap of 1.5 seconds ahead of Caspar Morgen who worked his way back to the field to the second position after his driving error in lap number seven. Ulrich Dinger had more trouble after his “wrong turn” and finished only in 9th position. Manuel Stankowitz took advantage of that and crossed the line in third place. Thomas Oehler and Mirco Thalheimer followed Stankowitz in 4th and 5th place.
The first A-Main of the Scorpion Formula class saw top qualifier Luke Lee taking the win after a great drive here on the very technical track in Daun. Renè Kölbel tried everything to follow Luke Lee on track and he was pushing very hard to close the gap. He came closer for a several times and lost some tenths in other laps which looked like in the real Formula 1, where drivers must stay out of the “dirty air”. In the last minute of the race, Kölbel started his last attempt to catch Luke Lee but in the end, he ran out of time and Luke Lee took the win by 0.5 seconds from Kölbel. Sören Sparbier, Herbert Weber and Mathias Domig completed the top five here in A-Main number one of our Scorpion Formula division. A2 will be on the line tomorrow morning – let`s see what the drivers will show us there!
On Sunday, we will see two more rounds of Finals in every class, and we hope that you will follow all the action in the “LIVE” section here on our website!
All rounds of Qualifying are done here at ETS RD5 in Daun. All TQ`s and A-Main spots are taken as we head into the finals very soon. Find out who made it into the big show in our Q4 report!
Matrix Modified
Völker takes important pole position in the Modified class
After another round of very intense qualifying here in Daun, we will see Mugen Seiki`s Ronald Völker starting from the pole position into the triple A-Mains of the Matrix Modified class. In the opening lap of the race, Völker had a traction roll coming out of nowhere. Asked about that issue after the race, Ronald said that it must have been caused by a very small bump or a piece of tape on the black ETS carpet. He was not able to recover from this big loss of almost 5 seconds and in the meantime, Marc Rheinard was leading the race. The Awesomatix driver tried everything to win the heat with a faster time compared to Völker`s time from Q3 as he wanted to steal the overall TQ away from the Mugen driver. But in the end Marc`s time was 3 tenths off the pace from Völker`s fastest runtime which handed the overall TQ to Ronald Völker. Behind Rheinard we saw Christopher Krapp (Yokomo), Lucas Urbain (Awesomatix), Karri Salmela (Awesomatix) and Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) completing the top 5 in the last round of Modified qualifying in Daun.
TQ Ronald Völker had the following words for us:
After the traction roll in lap one my race was done. I continued driving but tried to not interrupt the race for the others as I knew that I had dropped back to the end of the field. I was not sure about Marc`s pace on track so it took until the very end to know that I had the overall TQ in the bag. For the finals I will try to defend my position as my goal is to win here in Daun. But I expect a lot of pressure from Marc and it will be a lot of work to stay on top of the field!
Ronald Völker, Mugen Seiki/LRP
Second place qualifier Marc Rheinard about his qualifying result:
Lining up second on the grid is not bad, but for sure I am disappointed about not having the pole position here in Daun. I don`t know if it is possible to overtake on this track but I will try to build up as much pressure on Ronald as possible. On the other side, Krappi (Christopher Krapp) is also having a good pace and I have to stay ahead of him as well. I am ready for the finals and my car is good enough for the win!
Marc Rheinard, Awesomatix/Orca
Christopher Krapp also talked to our media team after Q4:
Overall, a really good qualifying result for me and I am happy with that. My Yokomo car feels good on track, and I hope that I can keep up the pace with Marc and Ronald in the finals. Sometimes, third is the best place to be when something happens in front. If so, I will be there to fight for an even better position!
Christopher Krapp, Yokomo/Racing Performer

Awesomatix driver Simon Lauter finally secured the pole position here at ETS RD5 in Daun. He took three out of four heats and earned himself the best place on the grid when we head into the triple A-Mains of our Xray Pro Stock class. Alex Kunkler (Awesomatix) will line up in second with Berkan Kilic (Mugen Seiki) in third place right beside him. Louis Kretschmer (Awesomatix) finished in fourth place after a fantastic qualifying, and Max Mächler (Awesomatix) will line up fifth on the grid. The finals will be very interesting to watch as Simon Lauter has only one mission this weekend: TQ and win at ETS RD5. With the first job now done, he just needs two perfect final runs to win the race and that will put him in a promising overall position of the championship.

The last round of qualifying in the Hobbywing Frontwheel class saw Mein Niemann showing once again why he will start from pole position. He laid down the only 17 lap run of the entire field, making it a perfect day for him. Behind Niemann it was Alexander Stocker who posted the second fastest time ahead of Sören Sparbier, Max Körner and Steven Olsen. We expect some nail-biting finals in the Hobbywing FWD class as the top drivers are on a similar pace and only Niemann looked a bit stronger. Will anybody have a serious shot to fight with him for the win ?

Reile wins deciding qualifier and takes pole position
Dominik Reile took a very intense last heat of Orca 17.5 Stock qualifying ahead of Thomas Bemmerl and Daniel Pöhlmann. The trio was only separated by 0.3 seconds as they crossed the finish line and Dominik Reile was really delighted about his win when he came down from the driver stand. We can expect a tough fight for the win in the upcoming triple A-Mains and we are looking forward to these races. Can Thomas Bemmerl win the overall title here in Daun, or can Dominik Reile win the race to delay the title decision into the next race? Niclas Storm booked his first A-Main at the ETS and will start from 10th on the grid – congratulations!
Asked about his feelings after claiming the overall TQ, Dominik Reile had the following to say:
I was close to a heart attack at the end of the race because the pressure was so high. But now I will start from pole position which is one first step if you like to win such a big race. I hope that I will have my nerves under control as it is never easy to lead a race from the start with such fast guys right behind you. Let`s see what I can bring home after the finals!

In the ToniSport 40+ Masters class, Toni Mateo will start from pole position after winning the last of the four rounds of qualifying in Daun. Caspar Morgen will line-up directly behind Mateo with Ulrich Dinger and Torsten Baggendorf in the second row of the grid. Toni Mateo won ETS RD4 in Neumünster from the pole and showed that he has strong nerves. Can Caspar Morgen, or anybody else, challenge him for the win here in Daun? Will Caspar Morgen become the overall champion in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class this weekend? We will know more about that on Sunday when the races are over!

Matrix Modified
Völker on top in Q3, overall TQ to be decided in Q4
Ronald Völker (Mugen Seiki) took the third round of qualifying of the Matrix Modified class. After Marc Rheinard (Awesomatix) was fastest in Q2, Ronald was able to take the third one by 0.245 of a second. To point out how close qualifying is here in the Modified class: Ronald`s advantage of time over Marc after three rounds of qualifying (15 minutes) is 0.305 seconds! It is really unbelievable how close these guys are. Behind the leading duo it was Christopher Krapp (Yokomo), Lucas Urbain (Awesomatix) and Michal Orlowski (Schumacher) rounding out the top 5. The decision for the overall TQ comes down to the line in the fourth and final qualifier and it will be all between Ronald Völker and Marc Rheinard again – a guarantee for another THRILLER. Right now, Ronald has the faster overall runtime at his favour. Let`s see what Marc can do in Q4.
The third round of qualifying in the Xray ProStock class saw Awesomatix driver Alex Kunkler taking the win. His teammate Simon Lauter had a crash in lap 2 and lost 3.5 seconds but he was able to recover from that and still finished second for the round. In the front, Alex Kunkler had a flawless run without any mistakes, and he posted his first ever TQ run at the ETS – something really special for every RC racer. Behind Kunkler and Lauter it was Awesomatix driver Louis Kretschmer in third place followed by Meik Niemann and Xray`s Lukas Ellerbrock who made it into the top 5 for the first time this weekend! Round 4 of Pro Stock qualifying will be up next and the only driver with a theoretical chance to steal the TQ away from Simon Lauter is Alex Kunkler now. But therefore, he would need a faster run as Lauter posted in Q2 and that will not be an easy task for Kunkler. Simon Lauter is still looking like the fastest guy out there and he posted the fastest lap of the day (15.079) as well.
We talked to Alex Kunkler and asked him about his feelings after his first ever TQ run:
Really cool to finally TQ a round of qualifying at the ETS. After Simon made the mistake in lap 2 I was leading and luckily I got it together until the end. Simon was closing up all the time, but he lost to much time in the beginning which was good for me in this case. For the next round I will try some small setup changes as my car is absolutely on the limit and not far away from traction rolling. But nevertheless, I will go full send in Q4.
Meik Niemann will start from pole position into the triple A-Mains of the Hobbywing Frontwheel class. He took another win in Q3 which sealed the deal for him. Behind the dominant driving “Mighty” Meik Niemann, Sören Sparbier was the closest follower as he took second place for the round – his best ever FWD run at the ETS. Steven Olsen, Mischa Kroos, and Sebastian Meibörg completed the top 5 in the third round oh qualifying in our Hobbywing Frontwheel class. With the overall TQ now decided, the places on the grid behind Meik Niemann are still wide open between Olsen, Sparbier, Körner, Stocker, Meibörg and Völker.
Max Körner was the fastest driver on track in round 3 of qualifying in the Orca 17.5 Stock class. After he took a second place in the opening round on Friday afternoon, he topped this result here in Q3 of the Orca 17.5 Stock class. He had an advantage of 1.4 seconds over Thomas Bemmerl and Daniel Pöhlmann – a really strong result for Körner who is racing his third ever ETS event here in Daun. Behind Körner, Bemmerl and Pöhlmann, we saw Dominik Ruf in fourth and Alexander Müller in fifth position. Max Körner is on top of the field right now and we are heading into a thrilling fourth round of ETS qualifying in our Orca 17.5 Stock class very soon. The pole position will be on the line between Max Körner, Daniel Pöhlmann and Dominik Reile as all of them TQ`ed at least one round here so far. Keep an eye on our Orca 17.5 Stock class, these guys are showing awesome RC car racing!
Our ETS reporter Patrick had the chance to speak to RD3 TQ Max Körner after the race:
I was really nervous during the run as it was super close with Thomas and Daniel. Luckily, I was able to bring home a clean run and it feels very good to fight for the top spots here in Daun. In Neumünster my goal was making it into the A-Main but here I have a better pace and I hope for an even better result!
Toni Mateo from Gran Canaria took the third round of qualifying in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class. He took the win in Q3 with 0.9 seconds from second placed driver Ulrich Dinger. Round 2 TQ Caspar Morgen finished third for the round and Torsten Baggendorf and Thomas Oehler completed the top 5. After we saw three different TQ`s until now, the decision for the pole position will come down to the line in the last round of qualifying here at the Sporthotel Grafenwald. Stay tuned and watch our thrilling ToniSport 40+ Masters class.
Luke Lee took the third qualifier in the Scorpion Formula class at ETS RD5 in Daun. The British Formula racer had a clean run and finished 3 seconds ahead of RD2 winner Renè Kölbel. Luke Lee posted the fastest lap of the heat and was the only driver with a 19-lap run. It seems that he has the best pace so far but let`s see if Kölbel will find something to fight for the overall TQ in the upcoming last round of qualifying. Sören Sparbier, Herbert Weber and Luka Jovicic completed the top 5. With one more round to follow, everything is possible in the Scorpion Formula class.
We talked to Luke Lee and here is what he had to say about his third qualifying run:
As this is the first time ever I am running foam tires on my car here at the ETS, I had to adapt my driving style a little bit during practice. But now I got a good feeling for my car on track, and I really like to drive on this challenging ETS track where you can ride the curbs a little bit! With two TQ runs in the bag I hope to seal the overall TQ in the next round as a good starting position will be very helpful for the finals.
Some TQ`s are decided, some are still wide open! Don`t miss the action from the upcoming last round of qualifying here at ETS RD5. On our website you will not miss anything as you can find the PullstartTV livestream in our “LIVE” section. To get quickly to the results of all classes simply navigate to the “RESULTS” area on our landing page!
Meik Niemann is running the actual Awesomatix A800 FX Evo FWD car here at ETS RD5. He was a very quick driver in the past, and won at least one ETS race in the Pro Stock class, (2011 in Warsaw, Poland). At the end of the season, he was the vice Pro Stock champion back in these days. Now he is back after a 5 year break from R Cracing and it seems he has not lost any of his skills. His Awesomatix car looked brilliant on track and Meik is running the car almost “out of the box” with some MR33 Bulkhead Brass Weights being the only option parts he is using. His battery choice is a 4100mah Shorty from LRP with a very low center of gravity!
The second round of qualifying here in Daun is completed. Find out what happened here on Friday evening and on early Saturday morning at the Sporthotel Grafenwald in the beautiful Eifel region!
Matrix Modified
Rheinard takes early morning Q2 at ETS RD5
Awesomatix driver Marc Rheinard was able to fight back against Mugen`s Ronald Völker this morning. Marc came short in Q1 by just 0.125 seconds, but in Q2 he was able to turn things around to his favour by winning the heat with a gap of 0.065 seconds ahead of Ronald. The race was very close and Völker was leading in the first laps. Then Rheinard took over the lead and stretched it to 0.5 seconds before Völker closed again to take the lead in the last minute. But Rheinard had the better pace in the penultimate lap where he gained back almost three tenths over Völker – enough to win this thrilling round of Qualifying in the Matrix Modified class. Behind Rheinard and Völker it was Lucas Urbain taking a strong third place with his Awesomatix car. Yokomo`s Christopher Krapp finished fourth and ToniSport`s Dominic Vogl had a great run to P5 with his Awesomatix car in the second fastest group.
We asked round 2 TQ Marc Rheinard about his run:
I expected Q2 to be as intense as Q1 was yesterday, and it was exactly like this. This time I had the better ending on my side, and I am happy about my TQ run. My Orca powered Awesomatix worked flawless and once again it was just about laying down a clean run. Now the TQ is wide open and I will aim to take it!
Marc Rheinard, Awesomatix/Orca
Second placed Ronald Völker had the following words to say after Q2:
At the beginning I drove carefully and after Marc had taken the lead, I pushed a little harder. Once it paid off and I could close the gap again but as we all had been on the absolute limit it was not easy to push that hard until the end. My Mugen Seiki car felt very good and my LRP power package is on point as well. It was a very close result, and I am looking forward to Q3!
Ronald Völker, Mugen Seiki/LRP
Our reporter had a quick chat with French driver Lucas Urbain after he took 3rd place in Q2:
After my start into qualifying was not that good yesterday, my goal was to have a clean run and I drove a bit defensive. In some laps my lines have not been perfect, but at the end of the run I was really surprised by the pace I had. It was a solid third place and I will try to close the gap to the front in the next round. The lightweight body shell I prepared overnight really helped me to get that little bit of extra performance out of my Awesomatix car!
Simon Lauter took another win in Q2 here on Saturday morning in the Xray Pro Stock class. The Awesomatix driver outpaced his teammate Alex Kunkler by 1.7 seconds and is vers close to seal the overall TQ here in Daun. Behind Lauter and Kunkler it was Mugen driver Berkan Kilic in third place. A great result for him after his second place in yesterday’s opening qualifier. Frederik Mikkelsen and Louis Kretschmer rounded out the top 5 in Q2 of the Xray Pro Stock class.
Simon Lauter after Q2:
My run was almost clinic. I tried to keep it as clean as possible and it worked out fine. My car feels amazing and I enjoy driving it here in Daun. With two TQ runs in the bag I am very confident for the rest of the weekend as I will start from second place in the worst case now.
Simon Lauter, Awesomatix/LRP
Alex Kunkler told us after his second place in Q2:
To be honest, I am super happy with my result. After I struggled in the opening qualifier yesterday evening, I had to deliver something here in Q2. I used my second set of tires which felt a little bit better on track and in Q3 I will attack a bit harder to score another good number of points!
The second round of qualifying in the Hobbywing Frontwheel class saw Meik Niemann taking another win after his strong performance in Q1. This time he was two seconds ahead of Steven Olsen who finished second again. Sören Sparbier had another good run to a very solid third position and Alexander Stocker posted the fourth fastest time out of the second fastest heat. Jonas Völker showed that he has the pave to compete for a podium with a fifth place in Q2. With the best chances for the overall TQ, Mike Niemann can start relaxed into the third round of qualifying in the Hobbywing Frontwheel class.
Outgoing champion Daniel Pöhlmann took the second round of qualifying in the Orca 17.5 Stock class here at ETS RD5 in Daun. After Dominik Reile won the first heat, Pöhlmann showed that he is on point as well as he won the second qualifier with a gap of 0.6 seconds ahead of Alexander Müller. Dominik Reile posted the fastest lap of the race (15.935), but had to take a third place for the round after he lost 3.5 seconds of time in lap number 10. Without this, his runtime would have been good enough for another TQ run but in the end he couldn`t make it happen. Title contender Thomas Bemmerl and Dominik Ruf rounded out the top 5.
In the ToniSport 40+ Masters class, Caspar Morgen took the win in the second round of qualifying ahead of Torsten Baggendorf and Ulrich Dinger. Thomas Oehler and Manuel Stankowitz crossed the line right behind them in fourth and fifth position for the round. With Morgen and Dinger having one TQ run on their scorecard so far, we can expect them to fight for the pole position in Q3 and Q4. With a good result here in Daun, Caspar Morgen has the chance to seal the overall title in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class. Let`s see if he can make it happen!
After coming short to Luke Lee in the opening round of qualifying on Friday afternoon, Austrian racer Renè Kölbel won the second round on early Saturday morning here in Daun. With Lee and Kölbel having one TQ run and a second place so far, they now have the biggest chance to start from pole position into the finals. In the next two rounds we will find out who will earn the sunny spot on the grid! Herbert Weber and Sören Sparbier have been very close to Luke Lee at the end of the run so it will not only be a two-horse race in the front as they have a great pace as well. Tomas Sova completed the top 5 in the Scorpion Formula class.
On our website you will not miss anything as you can find the PullstartTV livestream in our “LIVE” section. To get quickly to the results of all classes simply navigate to the “RESULTS” area on our landing page.
The first of four rounds of qualifying here at ETS RD5 is in the books. Whenever we head into Q1 at an ETS race, you always can feel that it is “game on” from this moment on. The tension in the sports hall of the Sporthotel Grafenwald in Daun had reached the boiling point on Friday afternoon after all the rounds of free and controlled practice. We saw thrilling fights against the clock while everybody was racing for a first countable result of the weekend.
Matrix Modified
Völker takes intense Q1 in Daun
We saw a close finish in RD1 of qualifying in the Matrix Modified class here at ETS RD5 in Daun. Mugen Seiki`s Ronald Völker, who started third into the heat, crossed the line with a small margin of 0.125 seconds ahead of Awesomatix Marc Rheinard. During the whole runtime they were separated between 0.1 to 0.6 seconds all the time with the better end for Völker. The intensity was clearly visible for all spectators, and it once again was a great heat to watch. Behind Völker and Rheinard, Yokomo`s Christopher Krapp finished in third position. Krapp showed a great pace in seeding practice, but somehow, he was not able to keep it up here in Q1, with P3 still being a very good result for the start of qualifying. Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) and Antoine Brunet (Xray) completed the top 5 on Friday afternoon in Q1 of the Matrix Modified class.
Our media team talked to round one TQ Ronald Völker shortly after the race:
I remember that it was tough to drive here in Daun two years ago, and that didn`t change. It was a very intense and challenging Q1 and the changes we made on my shock package worked out fine. This change for sure helped to walk away with the overnight TQ which always is a great way to start into qualifying. I expect it will be that tough in all upcoming races until the end of the weekend!
Ronald Völker, Mugen Seiki/LRP
Marc Rheinard told us about his run to P2:
Overall, it was a good and solid run bit in the end I came short by that 0.1 second. My car felt a little loose in the rear and my driving was not 100% on point in some laps. There is something to improve for sure, but I am optimistic as my car gets even better when the tires are getting older from run to run!
Marc Rheinard, Awesomatix, Orca
Third placed Christopher Krapp commented his run in our media centre as well:
I am not so happy with my result – even P3 is not a bad start into qualifying. I made some setup changes and expected them to work different as they did. For tomorrow mornings Q2 I will go back to my setup from the seeding practice. The pace is there and I will attack even more.
Lauter TQ`s the first round ahead of Kilic and Mächler
In the Xray Pro Stock class it was Simon Lauter taking maximum points in Q1. After he made a mistake in lap 2, he was able to recover from his 2 second loss to take the win. Behind Lauter, Mugen Seiki`s Berkan Kilic finished second with Max Mächler (Awesomatix) in third place. We saw a lot of small crashes from some of the drivers during the heat which once again showed the track`s level of difficulty. Alex Kunkler (Awesomatix) and Frederik Mikkelsen (Awesomatix) finished fourth and fifth for the round.
Simon Lauter (Awesomatix) had to say the following after Q1:
In the second lap I made a mistake in the left part of the track which was completely my fault. After that I was driving “flat out” and luckily, I was able to recover from that with many other drivers also made mistakes during the run. This track here in Daun is not forgiving any mistakes and tomorrow morning I will try to keep my run as clean as possible.
Simon Lauter, Awesomatix/LRP
Second placed Berkan Kilic (Mugen Seiki) was confident with his result too and reported about his Q1:
My goal was to lay down a clean, safe and fast run – really not easy but in the end it worked out for me. With this good number of points in the bag I will try to attack in tomorrows three rounds of qualifying. A good starting position is always nice, and we will see where I will be when qualifying is over!
Top Seed Meik Niemann TQ`ed the first found of qualifying in the Hobbywing Frontwheel class. After being fastest in practice, Niemann didn`t look back in Q1 and drove to the victory. Behind him, Steven Olsen finished second – a very important result for him to keep his title chances alive. Sören Sparbier booked a third place with Alexander Stocker and Sebastian Meibörg completing the top 5.
We asked RD1 TQ Meik Niemann about his run:
My FWD car was sooo good and I really enjoyed to drive with it on the track. I was able to fully concentrate on my driving lines and in the end it was a really good result for me. I will try to keep up the pace as I really would like to start on pole position.
Dominik Reile impressed with a strong TQ run as he topped the timing sheets in the Orca 17.5 stock class. He won the heat with 2.1 seconds ahead of Max Körner in second, and Daniel Pöhlmann in third place. A perfect start into qualifying for Reile while championship leader Thomas Bemmerl scored only a sixth place in Q1 behind Alexander Müller and Henrik Heitsch.
Ulrich Dinger won the first round of qualifying in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class as he outpaced Toni Mateo and Torsten Baggendorf by a couple of tenths at the end of the run. Thomas Oehler and Markku Seppälä rounded out the top 5.
Asked about his TQ run, Ulrich Dinger said:
For sure I was a little lucky in Q1 as some others crashed during the run. But in the end I am happy to book a TQ run. For the next round I don`t plan any changes and I will just try to keep it nice and easy on the track.
The first round of qualifying in the Scorpion Formula class saw British driver Luke Lee taking the win in front of Renè Kölbel and Sören Sparbier. Herbert Weber and Michael Lipperheide finished fourth and fifth for the round on Friday evening. Renè Kölbel and Luke Lee had an almost similar pace and we are excited for the next three rounds of Formula qualifying here at ETS RD5 in Daun.

The controlled practice sessions here in Daun have been very close between the top drivers in all ETS classes. This carpet track seems to be a real beast, and no mistakes are allowed if you want to finish on a top spot. Compared to the seeding practice where you only need three good laps, the upcoming qualifying heats will be totally different. Find out about the seeding practice results at ETS RD5 Season #14 2021/22 at the Sporthotel Grafenwald in Daun/GER.

Rheinard is top seed in Daun
Awesomatix factory driver and multiple IFMAR world champion Marc Rheinard is the top seed here at ETS RD5 in Daun. He drove the fastest three consecutive laps in the timed practice sessions and earned himself the best starting position for Q1. Yokomo`s Christopher Krapp will start second into the four qualifiers with Mugen Seiki`s Ronald Völker in third and right now, it is looking like we can expect a close fight for the overall TQ between them. Lucas Urbain (Awesomatix) and Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) made it into the top 5 as well ant they will push hard behind the leaders to score good points in Q1.
We talked to top seed Marc Rheinard on Friday afternoon – here is what he told us:
My car worked great directly from the start of the event. The free practice sessions helped us a lot to try some stuff and we know how to deal with the track conditions at the moment. But for qualifying, the key factor will be clean driving as the track is not an easy one to handle. No mistakes are allowed but I am very confident and happy with my Orca powered Awesomatix!
Marc Rheinard, Awesomatix/Orca
Yokomo`s Christopher Krapp also had a quick talk with our media team:
I think everybody will see the biggest challenge in not making any mistakes on this track. I was fast over the three laps but I need to improve my consistency for the whole run just a little bit. My Yokomo car is super good here and my Racing Performer power package works amazing as well. I am looking forward to qualifying and I am ready to rumble!
Christopher Krapp, Yokomo/Racing Performer
Mugen Seiki`s Ronald Völker also stopped at our media office – here is what he told us:
We will do some small setup changes to my Mugen Seiki MTC2 for Q1 to make it more easy in the chicane. Otherwise it`s going well and I am happy with the pace over 5 minutes. I am looking forward to fight for the win here in Daun.
Ronald Völker, Mugen Seiki/LRP

Simon Lauter (Awesomatix) was the fastest driver in the controlled seeding practice of the Xray Pro Stock class. His teammate Alex Kunkler was 0.156 seconds behind Simon to take second place in front of a strong looking Berkan Kilic (Mugen Seiki) in third. The top 5 got completed by two more Awesomatix drivers – Max Mächler and Meik Niemann – making it four Awesomatix and one Mugen Seiki car in the top 5 of the Xray Pro Stock class.
Asked about his expectations for qualifying, top seed Simon Lauter told us:
The day went very well for me and my Awesomatix car is feeling very good on track. Kunki (Alex Kunkler) is also very, very fast and in my opinion, the most important key for success will be clean runs as the track is a big challenge for everybody over the 5 minutes!

Niemann with a strong performance in seeding practice
Meik Niemann showed a ballistic performance here during the seeding practice in Daun. Compared to his rivals, he was one second faster on his three consecutive laps which is a real statement! Steven Olsen is still doing everything he can to keep his championship chances alive and he will start from second into qualifying. It will not be easy to keep up with Niemann`s strong pace but qualifying is a different task and Olsen is always driving very consistent. Jonas Völker, Sören Sparbier and Sebastian Meibörg completed the top 5 in seeding practice.
Meik Niemann had a quick chat with our reporter:
I had a very good day, and my result is looking strong so far. Compared to the last race in Neumünster I am running a carbon fibre chassis plate in my Awesomatix FWD car which worked very good here on track. I know that the other guys will try to catch me in qualifying, and over 5 minutes I don`t expect my advantage to be as big as it was now over the three fastest laps. But I will give my best and then we will see what will happen!

I am feeling really comfortable on the track. It is a challenging layout, but until now I think I found a good way around it. I hope to be in the same situation after qualifying but I expect a strong competition from the others. Overall, I am really looking forward to fight for a possible pole position!

Ulrich Dinger and Manuel Stankowitz stayed in the top 5 as well. When we are looking on the overall championship, Caspar Morgen is in a very comfortable situation as his last contender Thomas Oehler is only sitting in eight position right now!
Our Media Team had a quick chat with top seed Torsten Baggendorf:
To be honest, this track is a huge challenge. At the moment I am very happy with my car, and I will not change anything on the setup. I will do some regular checks and maintenance before qualifying and I hope I can fight for the top spot here against all the other guys. I was on pole here at one of the last races and I really would like to repeat that!
