ETS Race Recap RD3 Season #14 2021/22 AMCA Apeldoorn

0

RD3 in the Netherlands with superb racing all weekend long

From the 16. – 19. September 2021 the third round of ETS Season #14 2021/22 took place in the Netherlands on the ground of the AMCA Apeldoorn. After having the first two races of the season at Arena33 in Germany, it was great for the ETS circus to travel to a different country after a long time. The weather was good for most of the time, only some fog and moisture in the morning delayed the start of practice on Thursday and Friday. Everything was set for another big show of RC racing at the Euro Touring Series.

Let`s go back to Apeldoorn to review the race results and some other interesting things we noticed during ETS RD3.

Perfect job from AMCA Apeldoorn

The race was held on the amazing track of the AMCA Apeldoorn. As drivers arrived on Thursday, everything was prepared for a great weekend of racing. The club did an outstanding job during all days and the ETS wants to shout out a huge THANK YOU. It was a pleasure to work with the cub and to race on their track which for sure is one of the best for 1:10 scale racing in Europe.
The team in the cafeteria was always there to care about the racers and even simple things like checking toilets and the waste cans around the track never felt into oblivion. The pit areas featured enough space to comply with the Covid rules and the permanent control at the entry of the facility also worked out very fine. The ETS is looking forward to returning to Apeldoorn next season!

Phil Richter replaced Scotty Ernst once again

With Scotty Ernst still not able to fly over from the United States, it was once again Phil Richter from Berlin who (luckily) was able to fly to the Netherlands on Friday evening. He announced the qualifying and the finals on Saturday and Sunday and he did another great job after making his ETS debut on the “mike” some weeks ago during RD2 in Andernach.
Phil felt “directly on point” this time with his experiences from RD2 giving him a lot of confidence and the whole ETS crew and all drivers are thankful that he could realize this spontaneous trip to Apeldoorn to help us out. Together with timekeeper Hartmut Wenzel and Referee Franz Heinsbroek the event ran smooth and on schedule most of the time! The rest of the media team with Hanno van den Boogard (Video), Oliver Storm (IT Admin), Tom Wald (Pictures) and Patrick Beck (Text) was doing business as usual to keep the rest of the world informed about the ETS racing action in all classes!

Pullstart.TV in Apeldoorn

In cooperation with PullstartTV, the ETS brought the (normally fixated) camera system from Arena33 to Apeldoorn where Oliver Storm installed it on Thursday. This ensured a nice live streaming during the entire weekend and a lot of people watched the races from home. We would like to thank PullstartTV for this opportunity and as we heard, the AMCA Apeldoorn is now thinking about installing a permanent system as well which would be amazing for the club and for the great PullstartTV platform as well!

Pictures, pictures, pictures…

At ETS RD3 in Apeldoorn we had our actual photographer Tom Wald from “Bildwald” all around the track again. He took care about the pictures and the image gallery during the weekend and produced some awesome shots at his third ever RC Car race! Beside Tom, we saw a very famous photographer trackside – Callo Albanese! Callo is a Formula 1 photographer and travels to most of the races all around the world with the F1 circus. He came to Apeldoorn with his friends from Monaco RC and provided some amazing pictures during the weekend as well. Chris Sandner from RC-Cars-Pics was also taking a lot of great shots which he uploaded onto his facebook page after the weekend. It is amazing to have so many pictures from our events and we like to thank everybody for the work, the time and the passion they put into those!

Driver and Team performances

As we did after RD1 and RD2, we want to look onto the different racing classes as well as on drivers and team performances from RD3 in Apeldoorn. We saw a lot of interesting results, a successful car debut and two new ETS race winners in the Netherlands.

Xray with important win in the Matrix Modified class

Bruno Coelho`s Xray X4 in action!

ETS RD3 saw the return of Xray`s Bruno Coelho and Alexander Hagberg to the track after they were not able to travel (Covid restrictions) to Germany for the first two races of Season #14. With both drivers back on board, Team Xray was at full force in Apeldoorn, and they had a very important mission – winning the race! With their new announced X4 touring car platform coming onto the market in the next weeks, a lot of attention was on the team, and especially their performance on track.
All we can report about the official X4 race debut is: The car looked super-fast on track! Bruno Coelho scored maximum points in qualifying and secured himself the very important TQ position. Alexander Hagberg was on the way (and the pace) to start from second place until a mistake in Q4 let him drop down to fourth on the grid for the triple A-Mains with Mugen`s Völker and Yokomo`s Prümper starting between the top Xray duo. With Antoine Brunet (7th), another Xray top gun made the A-Main showing the huge potential of their all new X4 touring car. Bruno Coelho was able to win the first two A-Mains to make it a perfect race for himself and his team. He was able to open a small gap to Völker in the opening laps of A1 and A2 which he was able to maintain until the end of each run. With Völker`s winning streak of 4 consecutive ETS race wins now broken, it will be interesting to see what Coelho and his team can do to challenge Völker for the title until the end of the season. But most important for Xray was to show, that their new X4 platform is directly on pace!
Xray`s ProStock drivers Alexandre Duchet, Jan Ratheisky and Lukas Ellerbrock also used the new X4 car and while Duchet was not happy with his own driving this weekend, Lukas Ellerbrock was able to make his first ever ETS Podium while finishing third overall. Duchet seemed to have a pretty good pace over five minutes and would have been able to fight for the win, but some small mistakes here and there denied the French championship leader a better result. Jan Ratheisky also didn`t get into his perfect, and well-known rhythm in Apeldoorn but told us that his car was feeling really strong on track with the little experience they had so far. The new Xray X4 will be available to the public very soon and we are excited to see it perform on other tracks too!

Völker and the Mugen Seiki team still a hot shot

Ronald Völker`s Mugen Seiki MTC2 on track!

Matrix Modified championship leader Ronald Völker scored a strong second place with his MTC2 touring car behind race winner Bruno Coelho. Völker`s car looked strong out there – same as his driving- and he was only losing some ground to Coelho in the opening laps of the heats. Together with his team, Völker tried to improve his pace for the first laps but in the end, it was not enough to create enough pressure to Coelho this weekend. Nevertheless, it was another very strong performance from Völker and Mugen Seiki with his teammate Eric Dankel making the A-Main for a third consecutive time in a row now – Eric is in a great form with the MTC2! Mugen Seiki car Designer Robert Pietsch missed the A-Main by a very small margin this time and was not able to bump up from the B-Main.
In the Xray ProStock class it was Tim Benson who was responsible for a strong Mugen Seiki outing. He was the only MTC2 in the A-Main but being the overall TQ at the end of qualifying was a huge success for Benson and the Mugen car. It was the first ever Mugen Seiki pole in the very competitive ProStock class. After showing great and very dramatic racing with Simon Lauter, Benson had to walk away with second overall, but he showed that the car is super competitive in the ProStock class too.
It seems that the number of Mugen cars is further growing in the pits and the popularity of the car seems to continue. With two cars in the Orca 17.5 Stock A-Main (Maximilian Unterschütz & Max Körner) and another two in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class A-main (Manuel Stankowitz & Thomas Oehler) the overall results for Mugen Seiki at the ETS are improving as well. Let`s see what the team around their leading ace Ronald Völker will show us on carpet!

Awesomatix Simon Lauter takes epic ProStock win

Simon Lauter was the man of the weekend in Apeldoorn. He scored a very important victory for himself, and for his Awesomatix team in the ProStock class after coming short to Xray`s Duchet and Ratheisky in the last 5 ETS races. Dominic Vogl was the last Awesomatix race winner in the Xray ProStock class in July 2019 at the season final in the Hudy Arena making it a very long time for the Russian brand to finally win again!
Simon Lauter started second on the grid with Max Mächler, Frederik Mikkelsen, Alex Kunkler and Martin Hofer also qualifying for the big show. Awesomatix looks like the most popular brand in the stock classes and Simon Lauter showed that the car is still able to beat every other contender on the track. Lauter had to settle for second in A1 behind Benson, but in A2 and A3 the show was going on and Lauter made a beautiful pass in the last lap of A2 to take the overall decision into the last final where he showed another amazing run to seal a well deserved (and marginal) win ahead of Tim Benson and Lukas Ellerbrock. With Elibert Sievers (ToniSport 40+ Masters) and Dominik Reile (Orca 17.5 Stock), Awesomatix took two more important victories away from the Netherlands while having the most cars in the A-Mains of these classes at the same time!
In the Matrix Modified class we once again saw Marc Rheinard leading the group of Awesomatix drivers including Michele Manzo, Tim Wahl, Dominic Vogl, Marcel Geiger and others. Rheinard had a great pace in practice and just came a little short here and there in qualifying lining up fifth on the grid – a position where you normally don`t win the race. The finals were another rollercoaster ride for Rheinard as he had a third place in A1 followed by a ninth in A2 and another third in A3 which resulted in a fourth overall position for the Awesomatix driver at ETS RD3 in Apeldoorn. Especially in the second A-Main he suffered from a curious referee call after a confusing situation with Hagberg and Krapp on the track where it was not possible to only blame one driver. The situation costed him a lot of positions and maybe a better overall finish as well. The referee, Franz Heinsbroek, apologized to Rheinard after the run when he also had reviewed the situation on video – but during the race he made his decision which was not ideal for Rheinard`s result! Sometimes it is like that and the “racing luck” will come back to Marc Rheinard for sure!

Yokomo`s Prümper with another podium

Yannic Prümper finished third on the podium in Apeldoorn – the result he booked at RD2 some weeks ago as well. Yannic started from the third position after a solid qualifying and it seems that he is feeling really comfortable after his return to Yokomo with his pace improving from race to race. Christopher Krapp, a permanent guest in the modified A-Main, finished fifth overall and showed once again that he is a driver Yokomo can always rely on. French Yokomo driver Loic Jasmin could take advantage of his B-Main pole position, and after a very strong run ahead of Awesomatix driver Tim Wahl he bumped up from the B- into the A-Main. Great result for Loic as his last A-Main appearance at the ETS was in July 2019 where he finished fifth overall at the Hudy Arena.
Yokomo`s ProStock driver Enrico Jung, who qualified for the A-Main two times in a row at Arena 33, had to deal with a B-main finish this time with a 12th overall behind B-Main winner Nicolai Lindegaard. Jung just missed a little bit of pace in qualifying, but he will try to come back strong for Yokomo in the next races. David Kuschnarew, who finished second at RD2 in Germany, walked away from the Netherlands with a fourth overall position in the Orca 17.5 Stock class.
The Yokomo team looks very balanced, and the only thing they are missing since Ronald Völker`s departure is a big win.

Frontwheel Championship fight

The still booming Hobbywing Frontwheel drive class saw some close racing between Steven Olsen and Stefan Schulz during the first two rounds of the season at Arena33 in Germany. It was exciting to see, that these two guys were the fastest in Apeldoorn again. Schulz and Olsen had a close fight for pole position in qualifying with the better end for Schulz who gained some speed in Q3 and Q4. Mischa Kroos from Switzerland was able to win Q2 while Olsen took Q1. The finals saw Danish driver Steven Olsen fighting like a lion to set Schulz under some serious pressure. But the reigning German FWD champion Schulz had his nerves under control and brought home the win which also results in leading the overall championship right now. We can expect a fight between these two very strong drivers until the end of the season to find out who will be the champion in the Hobbywing Frontwheel drive class.

Miedema dominated the Formula class

While Max Verstappen took the win at Zandvoort a week ahead of the dutch ETS, his fellow-countryman Jitse Miedema did the same at his home race with showing strong driving against the best Formula drivers on the planet. Jitse was able to secure pole position ahead of the championship leaders Ratheisky and Ehrbar and he had everything under control in the mains with his Infinity Formula car. He was very delighted after winning his home grand prix in Apeldoorn! But as he was not in attendance at the first two races of the season, we expect the fight for the title to be continued between Jan Ratheisky and David Ehrbar.

Girl power in the A-Main

Elena Fuchs

At ETS Rd3 in the Netherlands we had some fast girls on the grid again. Jasmin Donath and Elena Fuchs started in the Orca 17.5 Stock class and Susanne Reile took once again part in the Hobbywing Frontwheel division. Patricia Wessels raced in the strong Xray ProStock class. Susanne qualified for the C-Main and finished 26th overall from 32 drivers in FWD. Patricia Wessels ended up in 36th place in ProStock and Jasmin Donath claimed the 15th position in Orca 17.5 Stock.

The girl with the best performance of the weekend was Elena Fuchs – no doubt about that. Elena showed a superb pace in qualifying and was able to book the first A-Main in her young ETS career. She was the happiest girl in the world after qualifying and everybody congratulated her for this strong achievement. In the A-Mains she raced with the best of the Orca 17.5 Stock class and finished 8th overall – congratulations for your first A-Main Elena!

New race winners at the ETS

The ETS family crowned two new race winners in Apeldoorn. For every racer, no matter what class he is running, a win at the ETS is something very special as it is still the largest stage for 1:10 scale electric onroad racing. So many drivers try to win a race, they put lots of effort, practice and time in it and it just will not happen because it is more than difficult. But at ETS RD3 in Apeldoorn we crowned two race winners who were able to climb on the top step of the podium for the first time in their ETS career.
Dominik Reile finally walked away from an ETS weekend with a win in the Orca 17.5 Stock class. He had been on a strong pace all season but in Apeldoorn he nailed the perfect weekend with a TQ and win for the first time -congratulations Dominik you are now in the club of ETS race winners! Daniel Pöhlmann finished second and championship leader Thomas Bemmerl third.
Elibert Sievers did the same as the local hero won his home race in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class after showing a dominant performance. He started from pole position and had to deal with some trouble in A1 only, where he only finished in ninth place. But the value of his result is even stronger to judge,  as Elibert was able to recover in A2 and A3 with two easy looking wins. Toni Mateo from Gran Canaria finished second and Manuel Stankowitz third. Congratulations Elibert, you also joined the club of ETS race winners – a moment every passionate RC racer will never forget!

ETS season #14 2021/22 to be continued on carpet

With three great outdoor races in the books now, the ETS season will continue on carpet. Right now the ETS team is working behind the scenes to book locations and dates and as soon as everything is fixed we will announce the next race. We all hope that the situation with Covid-19 will stay relatively relaxed to allow us to race indoors with all of you guys. We will do everything possible to provide you the best events with maximum joy and RC racing action!

We hope you liked this small recap of our beautiful weekend in Apeldoorn, from ETS RD3 Season #14 2021/22 – see you very soon!

Matrix Modified

Mugen`s Völker takes A3 to secure second overall

Ronald Völker (Mugen Seiki) took the win in the last final of the Matrix Modified class. Völker started from pole as race winner Coelho had to sit out A3 and he crossed the finish line 1.4 seconds ahead of Yannic Prümper who had a great fight with Marc Rheinard during the entire race. With his second place in A3, Yannic will step onto the podium together with Coelho and Völker as Rheinard had to take fourth overall here in Apeldoorn. Yokomo`s Christopher Krapp completes the overall top 5.

We talked to the overall top 3 after the trophy ceremony and here is what they had to say:

It was a perfect weekend for me and my team as we wanted to achieve the best possible result with our new X4 platform. Now we walk away from the Netherlands with the win and we couldn`t ask for more. Also for myself it is great to be back in competition as I could not attend a touring car race in the last 12 months.

Bruno Coelho, Xray/Hobbywing

For sure I wanted to win this race here in Apeldoorn but P2 is not a bad result in the end. I was happy with my LRP powered Mugen Seiki car all weekend and the gap to Bruno was small all the time. He did a good job and deserved the win. I also want to point out that it is really amazing to see the growing numbers of Mugen cars in the pits and I am happy that Eric made the Main here as well.

Ronald Völker, Mugen Seiki/LRP

My weekend was very good and I am absolutely satisfied with third overall. I had a really good pace and tried everything to close the gap to Bruno and Ronald with my Dash powered Yokomo. With finishing third here in the Netherlands after finishing on the podium at RD2 in Arena33 as well it shows that we are on the right way with our car. We had three cras in the A-Main with Krappi taking 5th and Loic 7th overall.

Xray ProStock

Lauter wins big for Awesomatix

In the Xray ProStock class we saw another super close and eventful final in the last leg. It was all about Tim Benson (Mugen Seiki) and Simon Lauter (Awesomatix) and Simon was able to put huge pressure on Benson directly after the start.
As the pressure reached the maximum, Benson and Lauter went on the main straight side by side and the cars touched each other just a little bit. Nothing big at all but enough to let Benson`s car fly of the straight into the barriers. He could continue his run but was not able to recover anymore. As it was just a normal racing incident, Simon Lauter was taking full advantage of it bringing home the overall victory in the Xray ProStock class at ETS RD3 in Apeldoorn. What a great result for Lauter in this field of world class ProStock drivers!
Tim Benson finished second and Lukas Ellerbrock (Xray) in third on the podium.

Big win for Sievers in the Masters class

Local hero Elibert Sievers was able to lay down a clean run in A3 of the ToniSport 40+ Masters class. Sievers didn`t look back after the start and tried to fucus on his lines. Toni Mateo was right on his tale but in the end Sievers could bring home the win in front of his home crowd. Manuel Stankowitz crossed the line in third position which saved him the last spot on the ToniSport 40+ Masters podium!

Our race reporter talked to Elibert Sievers during the trophy ceremony and a super happy Elibert said:

I am super, super happy with my result. Before the race my goal was to make the A-Main. And then I found myself on pole position which was an amazing feeling. After A1 was a mess for me I am even more proud and happy that I still could manage to get everything together in A2 and A3. Winning an ETS race feels really great!

Matrix Modified

Coelho wins it for Xray

Bruno Coelho is the overall winner in the Matrix Modified class making it a perfect debut for the new Xray X4 touring car platform. Bruno had another great start into the second final and was able to maintain his gap of around 1.0 seconds ahead of Völker until he crossed the finish line.

Völker (Mugen Seiki) was not able to close the gap which Coelho opened in the first laps, but he pushed hard to make it happen. In the end Völker booked another second place in front of Yannic Prümper (Yokomo), Christopher Krapp (Yokomo) and Antoine Brunet (Xray).
In the middle of the race we saw a very unlucky situation between Rheinard, Hagberg and Krapp which cost Hagberg a lot of positions and Rheinard got a stop and go penalty which also was not neccessary as the critical contact was not only between Marc and Alex – terrible luck for all of the guys in this racing situation. The referree apologized to Marc for the stop and go penalty as he saw that giving the penalty was a mistake – great sportsmanship in the end!
With Coelho sitting out A3 after already walking away with the overall win, the fight for second spot is still alive between Völker and Prümper and we can expect another exciting race in A3 of the Matrix Modified class.

Xray ProStock

Lauter takes A2 after dramatic last lap

The second leg of A-Mains in the Xray ProStock class was a thriller until the last corner when Simon Lauter (Awesomatix) made an amazing pass on race leader Tim Benson (Mugen Seiki). But let`s start at the beginning. Tim Benson had a great start and behind him, Simon Lauter saw Alexandre Duchet (Xray) pushing hard once again. After the first couple of laps Duchet made a mistake and was on the grass with 2 wheels which allowed Simon Lauter to focus on race leader Benson again.
Lauter then closed the 0.6 second gap all the way down to 0.1 seconds and in the last lap Benson had not the perfect entry onto the main straight. They went into the chicane side by side and Lauter gave Benson enough space just to pass him in the following teardrop after the chicane only some meters in front of the finish line to win a dramatic second final. Alexandre Duchet also found his way by Benson on the last meters to take second place.

A2 winner Simon Lauter told us after the run:

I had so many close “second places” in my last races and this time I tried everything to make it happen. In the end it was an amazing fight until the last lap with the better end for me this time. Now I am looking forward to A3 where I will go “All In” again!

Simon Lauter, Awesomatix / LRP

Behind Lauter, Duchet and Benson it was Lukas Ellerbrock (Xray) and Jan Ratheisky (Xray) completing the top 5. We are looking forward to the deciding third A-Main where Benson, Lauter and Duchet will fight for the overall win at ETS RD3 in the Netherlands.

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Schulz victorious in Apeldoorn

Stefan Schulz is the overall winner in the Hobbywing Frontwheel drive class at ETS RD3. He had another strong race on the track of the AMCA Apeldoorn and took A2 with 0.3 seconds in front of Steven Olsen who also showed a strong performance once again. It looks like we will have a close fight between Olsen and Schulz for the ETS championship title until the very end of the season.

FWD winner Stefan Schulz was really delighted after his win and said:

It was a clean run from my side in A2 but I always felt the pressure from Steven who performed so strong this weekend again. Racing with him is always fair and on a very high level and I have to compliment him for his driving. Now I took over the lead in the championship and I hope that I can stay on top until the end!

Orca 17.5 Stock

Reile breaks Bemmerl`s winning streak

After Thomas Bemmerl was on a winning streak in the last 3 ETS races, Dominik Reile finally broke up Bemmerl`s amazing series with taking A2 and the overall win in the Orca 17.5 Stock class here in Apeldoorn. Reile took advantage of his first starting position again and took it from tone to tone in front of Daniel Pöhlmann, who crossed the line 2.1 seconds behind Reile.
David Kuschnarew (3), Thomas Bemmerl (4) and Felix Schneider (5) completed the top 5 in A2.

We talked to Dominik Reile after his first ever win at the ETS:

Before the second final I tried to stay fucussed as I was more nervous on the line. But as soon as the race started everything went perfect for me as the guys behind me were fighting with each other. My goal for the rest of the run was to just keep the rubber on the tarmac and staying away from the curbs. It feels really amazing to win a race at such a high level of competition and I am super happy!

Infinity 40+ Masters

Sievers fights back in A2

After having a bad first final (9), Elibert Sievers took the second leg of A-Mains in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class. He was able to lead for the entire race but he had to stay calm as A1 winner Toni Mateo was all over him. In the last laps Mateo tried everything but there was no way by the car of Elibert Sievers. We will see the decision about the overall win in A3 and it will be all between Sievers, Stankowitz and Mateo.

Jitse Miedema was very happy after taking thw win in the Scorpion Formula class and told us in a quick chat:

My start in A2 was excellent as the rear tires had been in the perfect temperature window – I just punched it and had a clean run afterwards. My teammate Robin van Gog also had a good start and was running second for a while which helped me to stretch out my lead lap after lap. I am very happy about my third ETS race win in the Formula class and it is great to win a race in my home country here this weekend!

Matrix Modified

Coelho wins A1 in Apeldoorn

In the Matrix Modified class it was Xray`s Bruno Coelho who had a decent start into the final day here in the Netherlands. Coelho had a perfect first lap and was able to open a small gap between his Hobbywing powered Xray and Völker`s LRP powered Mugen Seiki car. Third place starter Yannic Prümper used his Dash power to follow Völker very closely in the first laps of the race. But as Yannic had Hagberg and Rheinard in his rear-view mirror as well, Völker and Coelho were able to check out in the front.
After some laps, it looked like Völker found a good rhythm as he could reduce his gap to Coelho by a couple of tenths. But as Völker was up on two wheels in front of the driver stand in lap 9, he lost that time again and Bruno was able to win A1 tone to tone after a very impressive run from pole position.
Marc Rheinard (Awesomatix) finished third after a very intense battle with Prümper and Hagberg. In the end of A1, Antoine Brunet (Xray) finished fourth and Christopher Krapp (Yokomo) fifth while Prümper and Hagberg dropped back to the end of the field.

Asked about his run, race winner Bruno Coelho said:

I was surprised about the huge traction the track had this morning. My car felt really good and I could benefit from that in the opening laps of the race. I tried to control the gap to Völker and after he had a little mistake, I had some more breathing room and won the first final which is always very helpful!

Bruno Coelho, Xray/Hobbywing

Second place finisher Ronald Völker also had a quick chat with us:

After the start I lost some ground to Bruno in the opening lap. But then I got back into a very good rhythm and tried to create some pressure. After I was on two wheels in front of the driver stand the gap was too big and I had to settle for second in the end.

Ronald Völker, Mugen Seiki/LRP

Xray ProStock

A1 goes to Benson

Tim Benson (Mugen Seiki) took the win in A1 of the Xray ProStock class here on Sunday morning at ETS RD3 in Apeldoorn. He was able to open up a small gap in the beginning as Duchet (Xray) and Lauter (Awesomatix) had a nice fight for second and third.
After Duchet had a mistake, Simon Lauter was able to close the gap to Benson but in the end, he ran out of time and Tim Benson won the race – a perfect start into the triple A-Mains for him.
Lukas Ellerbrock (Xray), Frederik Mikkelsen (Awesomatix) and Martin Hofer (Awesomatix) vompleted the top5.

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Schulz resists Olsens pressure to win A1

In the Hobbywing Frontwheel class, top qualifier Stefan Schulz took the win in A1 in front of his rival Steven Olsen. Schulz was leading the race after a good start from his pole position and Olsen kept the pressure as high as possible during the entire run. In the last minute the gap between them was around 0.5 seconds but Olsen never got into the position to start a serious attack as Schulz simply made no mistakes in the front.
Mischa Kroos crossed the line in third position in front of Manuel Stankowitz (4) and Jacques Libar (5). Can Olsen turn it to his favor in A2 or will Schulz seal the win to take over the championship lead in the Hobbywing Frontwheel class?

Top qualifier Bruno Coelho had the following to say about his day and the upcoming finals:

It is great to start on pole here in Apeldoorn. But as the gap to the others was always very small, I expect difficult finals to be honest. On this track the first 3-4 laps are very important and not easy as you can win or loose everything. I will focus on having a good start and when the cars behind me also fighting for positions it maybe will help me to build up a gap to them.

Bruno Coelho, Xray/Hobbywing

We also talked with second qualifier Ronald Völker after Q4:

After Q3 I thought that I maybe might lose my second position to Alex in the last round of qualifying. But luck was on my side and I am still second on the grid. ETS Q3 Report RD3 Season #14 2021/22

0

Round three of qualifying here in Apeldoorn is completed and we have our first overall TQ in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class.

Matrix Modified

Hagberg takes eventful Q3

Alexander Hagberg (Xray) won the third round of qualifying here in the Netherlands with a comfortable gap of 1.5 seconds ahead of Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) and Michele Manzo (Awesomatix). Eric Dankel (Mugen Seiki) scored some very important points finishing fourth for the round and Robert Pietsch (Mugen Seiki) crossed the line in the fifth spot.

During the run we saw Mugen Seiki`s Ronald Völker and Awesomatix Marc Rheinard being the early leaders in front of Hagberg, but after Rheinard went too wide at the end of the main straight he spun around and found his car stopping in the gras. This handed the lead over to Völker who was in a close fight with Hagberg in some hundreds of a second but Völker also made a small mistake which let him drop down the ranking list. Hagberg scored important points for himself and the Xray team in this third round!

Elibert Sievers took another impressive win in round 3 of qualifying in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class. He was able to win three out of three heats to secure himself a very hard fought pole position for Sundays triple A-Mains.

We talked to Elibert after his deciding TQ run:

I am more than happy with the runs I did here at my second ever ETS race. For sure it is an advantage that this is my home track but two years ago I was running in the B-Main and now I am the overall TQ which is amazing for me. For the finals I hope to stay calm as I expect a lot of pressure from the guys behind me but all I want to have is the maximum amount of fun in the end!

Behind Sievers, a much-improved Flavio Paladin finished second for the round in front of Thomas Oehler, Andy Kühne and Werner Schmitzer.

ETS Q2 Report RD3 Season #14 2021/22

0

The second round of qualifying here in Apeldoorn was delayed by two hours as the track and the whole area around the AMCA Apeldoorn was covered with intense fog and moisture in the morning. It took a while for the sun to break through the haze but once the moisture was gone it was time for Q2 for all the six racing classes here at ETS RD3 Season #14 2021/22. As yesterday evening`s first round of qualifying saw some very intense battles, all drivers pushed even harder this morning in the second round to score another good result!

Matrix Modified

Another win for Coelho

In the Matrix Modified class we saw Bruno Coelho (Xray) taking the win after he scored maximum points in Q1 on Friday evening as well. Bruno was leading the race during the entire time and Ronald Völker (Mugen Seiki) followed him with a gap between 0.4 and 0.7 seconds until the end of the run to score another second place.
Yokomo`s Yannic Prümper was right on Völker`s tail and crossed the line in third position another 0.5 seconds back. Marc Rheinard (Awesomatix) and Christopher Krapp (Yokomo) roundet up the top 5 in Q2 of the Matrix Modified class.
We head into round three with a lot of excitement as Coelho will have the chance to save the overall TQ for the finals. But with Völker, Prümper and Rheinard there are still hard contenders on track and they all will try to find that extra percent on their cars to steal the TQ away from Coelho in the last 2 rounds of qualifying.

Xray ProStock

Duchet from Kunkler and Mikkelsen in Q2

Alexandre Duchet was taking maximum advantage in Q2 as he was able to lay down a perfect run here in Apeldoorn. His fastest lap (15.786) was the fastest of the race as well and shows that Duchet is back in the game after not having perfect run on Friday evening.
Behind Duchet, the fight between the others was close again and Alex Kunkler was able to cross the line in second after a great run. Frederik Mikkelsen posted the third fastest time out of the second fastest group and Jan Ratheisky (4) and Max Mächler(5) completed the top 5 here in the second round of qualifying in the Xray ProStock class.

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Kroos takes Q2 from Stankowitz and Delisè

The second round of qualifying in the Hobbywing Frontwheel class saw Mischa Kroos taking the win at the end of the run in the fastest group. In the first minutes of the race, Steven Olsen and Stefan Schulz were leading the race and after Schulz had to retire his car in lap number 4 it looked like an easy win for Olsen. But when Steven had some trouble as well in lap 13 it was Mischa Kroos who took advantage of that, winning the heat in front of Manuel Stankowitz and Nicolas Delisè. Henrik Heitsch (4) and Jacques Libar (5) completed the top 5.
Mischa Kroos is on top of the Hobbywing Frontwheel class after two rounds of qualifying and we are looking forward to Q3 and Q4 when the fight for the TQ will still be alive between Kroos, Schulz and round 1 TQ Olsen.

Stock 17.5

Another TQ run from Reile

The second round of qualifying in the Orca 17.5 Stock class saw Dominik Reile laying down another strong TQ run. Daniel Pöhlmann and Thomas Bemmerl were chasing the leader during the whole run, but Reile took the win 2 seconds ahead of them. With Reile now having the best shot for the overall TQ after he won round one and two, the pressure now is on Pöhlmann and Bemmerl who are looking to be Reile`s strongest contenders.
Behind Reile, Pöhlmann and Bemmerl it was David Kuschnarew and Maximilian Unterschütz who completed the top 5 in Q2 here on Saturday morning. The next round will be an important one for Dominik Reile as he can secure the overall TQ with another good run.

ToniSport 40+ Masters
Sievers again in Q2

In the ToniSport 40+ Masters class it was once again Elibert Sievers on top of the board. He won the heat 0.8 seconds in front of Torsten Baggendorf in second and Manuel Stankowitz in third position. Toni Mateo and Andy Kühne completed the top five in the second round of qualifying!
With the top 5 being together very close in terms of their fastest laps it shows that they all have the potential to be on top when they get together a perfect run. Right now, it is Elibert Sievers with the best chances for the overall TQ as he just needs some good points in Q3 to seal the deal!

Scorpion Formula

Ehrbar fights back in Q2

After finishing second in the opening round on Friday evening, David Ehrbar took the win in round 2 of qualifying in front of Jitse Miedema and Q1 winner Jan Ratheisky. Robin van Gog had a fast run to take fourth for the round in front of Chris Grenz who crossed the line in fifth position.
With Ratheisky and Ehrbar each having a win on their score card they have the best chances for the overall TQ. But as Jitse Miedema is on the same level of pace with a second and third place out of the first two rounds he will try his very best to steal the TQ away from Ratheisky and Ehrbar in Q3 and Q4.
