ETS Free Practice Report RD1 Season #15 2022/23

Free practice in Apeldoorn

We have seen a lot of action on the track here at ETS RD1 in Apeldoorn today. Almost everybody took the chance to participate in today`s six rounds of free practice to find a quick setup for the challenging AMCA track. The weather was nice all day, with temperatures in the lower twenties. For tomorrow we expect another sunny day in Apeldoorn. Now it is time to find out how drivers finished day 1 in all of our six ETS racing classes.

Matrix Modified

Rheinard, Groskamp, and Völker – the top 3 in Modified

The Matrix Modified class saw Awesomatix factory driver Marc Rheinard on top of the board after six rounds of free practice in Apeldoorn. Marc looked strong all day with his Awesomatix A800MMX car. Jilles Groskamp (Infinity) improved a lot during the day which brought him P2 at his first ETS appearance since Andernach 2020. He will be one to watch here in Apeldoorn. Mugen Seiki`s Ronald Völker was leading the field mid-day, before Rheinard and Groskamp took over the lead in the last session of the day. Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) and Tim Benson completed the top 5 in the Matrix Modified class.

Awesomatix ProStock

Dominant Max Mächler on top after day one in Apeldoorn

In the Awesomatix ProStock class, it was Awesomatix team manager Max Mächler who showed the strongest pace over three consecutive laps. Max had a comfortable gap of 0.6 seconds ahead of the field – something which we are not seeing very often in this strong field of drivers.

Right behind the Awesomatix A800MMX of Mächler, his teammate Olivier Bultynck came in second for the day ahead of Xray`s Lukas Ellerbrock, reigning Pro Stock champion Simon Lauter, and Tim Benson.

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Steven Olsen on top after Thursday`s free FWD practice sessions

The reigning vice champion of the Hobbywing Frontwheel class was the fastest man here on track today. Steven Olsen found a good setup for his Awesomatix A800FX and was able to lay down the fastest consecutive laps. Torsten Baggendorf and Kevin Sparbier have been very close to Olsen, finishing only 0.2 seconds behind.

Nicolas Delisè and Karl-Heinz Moritz completed the top 5 on track in the Hobbywing Frontwheel drive class. Oliver Kaufmann, who is currently 1st on the list, was doing a tire test with different tires and his times are not representative for today.

Orca 17.5 Stock

Free practice with Dominik Reile on top

In the Orca 17.5 Stock class, Dominik Reile came out fastest after today`s six rounds of free practice. Daniel Pöhlmann was right on his tail, turning the second fastest 3 consecutive laps around the track of the AMCA Apeldoorn. Kevin Schmid was third fastest, making it a 1-2-3 for the Awesomatix A800MMX touring car. Quick young lady Jasmin Donath had a strong day as well with P4, right ahead of the fast-looking Timo Siebert in fifth place.

Manuel Stankowitz with a great first day in Apeldoorn

Awesomatix A800MMX driver Manuel Stankowitz finished the day of free practice on top here in the Netherlands. He was the fastest over three consecutive laps in front of last year’s race winner Elibert Sievers, and Torsten Baggendorf. Another 1-2-3 for Awesomatix and their A800MMX. Flavio Paladin was also on a good pace, completing the top 5 together with Michel Zierold.

Local hero Robin van Gog tops Thursday practice

Robin van Gog had the fastest Formula car on the first day of ETS RD1 in Apeldoorn. His car looked strong on the Matrix foam tires, but Renè Kölbel was only some hundredths of a second behind him on his three fastest laps. Andreas Stiebler, Luka Jovicic, and Herbert Weber rounding up the top 5 on day one of the new ETS season.

For Friday the weather looks stable, and we expect temperatures around 23 degrees with sunshine and a little bit of wind. It will be a very important day for the drivers as we will see another two rounds of free practice followed by two rounds of timed seeding practice. On Friday afternoon we will see the first round of qualifying – a gritty moment when everyone must put their cards on the table for the first time.
