Long story short: The second set of finals had been completeley moved to Saturday evening because of a rainy weather forecast for Sunday. The decision was made by the ETS crew to get at least two full rounds of finals into the books. But as the sun was already gone a few minutes before eight o`clock, the last races (B and A-Mains) had to be under the lights of Arena33. It was a risky decision as racing under the lights is tricky, but it was the only chance to get two finals in for all ETS racers before a possible “rained out” Sunday (fingers crossed).
Masterclass from Orlowski under the lights of Arena33 – Lauter, Dankel, Völker, and Rheinard with an epic battle
The last race on Saturday evening was Modified A2 – under the lights. Everybody was super excited, a bit afraid, and also hyped to see the modified drivers dealing with these unusual conditions. When the race started, Michal Orlowski was launching his car off the line with a fresh painted , fluo yellow body shell. He did this in the very last minute to replace his blue body shell for better visibility on track – and it worked flawlessly. Orlowski was flying around the track and was untouchable until he crossed the finish line with a gap of almost one lap over the resr of the field – very impressive.
The spectators saw sparks flying when the modified cars hammered down the straightway and it was one of the best atmospheres we had at teh ETS since a long time – even with knowing how difficult it was for the racers out there.
Simon Lauter had a great fight for second place with Eric Dankel after Ronald Völker lost some ground in the early stages of the race – same as Bruno Coelho who spun around coming onto the straight in lap one. Lucas Urbain could not avoid to crash into Bruno`s car and was out of the race afterwards.
On the other side, Marc Rheinard (started P10) found himself in fifth place behind Völker after two minutes and made a nice pass under the cheers of the crowd coming onto the straightway. He tried to close the gap to Dankel and Lauter as well but in the end the finishing order in A1 was Orlowski, Lauter, Dankel, Rheinard, Coelho, Völker, Greiner, Manzo, Prümper, Jung, and Urbain.
Izsay wins Pro Stock class after a clinic drive “in the dark”
Xray factory driver Adam Izsay made it happen. Almost three years after his last Pro Stock victory, he finally managed to win again. After a clinic drive under the lights of Arena33 in Andernach, Izsay crossed the line ahead of his team mates Jaroslav Jun. Kriz, Jan Ratheisky, and David Perez Perez. Phil Langner had a very unlucky lap and lost many positions in the fight for an overall podium this weekend. A2 was a great race under the lights, and amazing to watch!
Borschel wins A2 to seal the overall victory at ETS RD3 in Germany
Roman Borschel won the second FlySky FWD A-Main at Arena 33 against all his hard competitors. Borschel drove a clean race in the difficult conditions and is the well-deserved winner of ETS RD3 in Andernach. Kevin Schmid, Max Weffers, and Stefan Schulz completed the top 4 in A2.
Mission completed – Ehrbar with another 40+ Masters class victory
David Ehrbar showed (once again) that nobody can stop him from winning in the 40+ Masters class. Mirco Thalheimer gave his all and drove a strong race in the dark but had to settle for second spot in A2 behind Ehrbar, and in front of Werner Schmitzer, Toni Mateo, and Anna Ehrbar.
Kappes strikes back and wins A2 ahead of Lätsch and Gassauer
After a bad first final. Christoph Kappes was able to recover in A2 when he drove to the win from second on the grid after TQ Daniel Anthes had some small bobbles here and there. Kappes took the win ahead of a strong driving Mick Lätsch, and a very experienced Patrick Gassauer. Christian Lütjen and Filip Bortoli rounded out the top five in the second Hobbywing 21.5 Stock final.
Ehrbar takes late evening A2 from Hudy and Libar
David Ehrbar was able to win A2 of the Formula class after Andreas Stiebler dropped back to the end of the field after an unlucky contact with Hudy and a barrier in lap one of A2. Ehrbar was able to hold off Hudy in the following minutes and took the win ahead of Hudy, Libar, Jovicic, and Stiebler.
