Bjarne Høllund on the mic at ETS RD1 Season #15 2022/23 in Apeldoorn/NED

0

Dear ETS Family,

today we are happy to present you our “Race Announcer” for our first race of the new ETS Season.

Bjarne Høllund will be the man on the mic when the Euro Touring Series will head into the 15th season in Apeldoorn. Scotty Ernst is not able to fly over to Europe due to family commitments, and we are very happy to have Bjarne with us in Apeldoorn.

He is very experienced, and in the RC Hobby since 1984 (!). During all the years, Bjarne raced a lot of different racing classes himself – from 1:12 scale pan cars to large 1:5 scale cars. The classes he likes the most are 1:10 scale touring car and 1:12 scale pan car. He is living in Minden (Germany) and speaks German, English and as well Dainsh as he was born in Denmark.

In the year 2017 he started to announce some races here and there. Asked about it, Bjarne told us:

I started announcing races just for fun. But it became more and more very quickly, and until today I had the honour to announce some major events as the Euros in 1:12 scale, 1:8 scale and also the 1:5 scale Buggy Euros. I was also doing the job of the referee at the 1:12 scale World Championships in Great Britain. I travelled a lot of countries from France to Ireland and from the Netherlands to Slovakia. I am really looking forward to see the ETS Family in Apeldoorn and I am happy that the ETS crew thought about me. See you soon in the Netherlands!

Bjarne Høllund

With the first race of the new season only three weeks away from us, everybody is looking forward to the start of the new season. The Euro Touring Series will be as interesting as always and we are sure to see some amazing RC Car racing at RD1 in Apeldoorn with Bjarne Høllund on the mic.

See you soon,

Uwe, Scotty and the whole ETS crew!

Dear ETS Family,

on May 3rd, 2022, we did two Webinars in German and English language about the upcoming ETS Season #15 2022/23. Unfortunateley, some people did not receive the correct login details and were unable to dial in. For this reason we decided to upload the webinar to the ETS YouTube channel. Now, everybody who missed the English or German Webinar will be able to re-watch it.

The Webinar includes some interesting information about the new Season #15 of the Euro Touring Series. Host Patrick Beck talked with his Guest Toni Rheinard about some small modifications in the rules, the ETS body shell list, racing tires and electronics, as well as locations for ETRS #15.

If you missed the Webinar, just watch it now. Grab yourself some drinks and snacks and enjoy it while wrenching on your race cars. We hope that you will like the format!

ETS Body Shell Update ZooRacing WOLVERINE allowed for Season #15 2022/23

0

Dear ETS Family,

after discussing with the crew, we like to inform you that both versions of the ZooRacing Wolverine body shell will be allowed during ETS Season #15 2022/23! The body shell will get added to the body shell list which we have already posted.

WHY

ZooRacing created the new Wolverine Max only, to homologate it for the EFRA list of body shells. Therefore, the current Wolverine body shell received a super small, and almost not visible uptade including a new product number.

After we checked the body shells in detail, we decided to allow both of them. Nevertheless, the classic Wolverine body shell will not get produced any longer. Once they are out of stock in hobby shops, only the Wolverine MAX will be available in the near future.
Until then, everybody who owns a Wolverine (ZR-0011-05 or ZR-0011-07) can use it at our races during ETS Season #15 2022/23. The new Wolverine MAX ( ZR-0015-05 or ZR-0015-07) is also allowed at the same time!

All participants of the 40+ Masters and 17.5 Stock classes must use these body shells in the regular 0,7mm versions as it is written down in the ETS rules.

ProStock

Wolverine Max ( ZR-0015-05 or ZR-0015-07)
Wolverine (ZR-0011-05 or ZR-0011-07)

17.5 Stock and 40+ Masters

Wolverine Max (ZR-0015-07)
Wolverine (ZR-0011-07)

We are looking forward to see you racing with your Wolverine`s in Apeldoon at ETS RD1 Season #15 2022/23!

Uwe, Scotty, and the ETS crew!

ETS Body Shell Preview, Season #15 2022/23

0

The new season of the Euro Touring Series will see the racers travel to the Netherlands at the beginning of June. The AMCA Apeldoorn will host the first encounter of the season and most of the drivers are already practicing outdoors to be well prepared for the challenge. Cutting, painting and testing body shells is one thing everybody is doing for sure to be ready to race in Apeldoorn!

Last year, the ETS implemented the official ETS Body Shell list into the rules for the first time. During the season we got positive feedback only, and because of that we will continue in the same way – or better saying “almost in the same way”. Today we like to inform you about almost all body shells which the different companies have listed for Season #15 2022/23.

These body shells will be visible in the official ETS rules for Season #15 2022/23 which are going to post in the next days in our RULES section – so check them out once they are published!

Rules update for Pro Stock and Modified

Most of the manufacturers told us that they are about to develop a new body shell at the moment. We wanted to give these companies the chance to list their newest body shell as well, even when it will not be ready for the market until our body shell listing deadline, which was on April 20th, 2022.

We decided the following for all ETS supporting body shell manufacturers:
1.) Every company can still list THREE body shells for Pro Stock and Modified directly (as in the last season).
2.) As an alternate option we offered them to list up to TWO body shells now, and another third body shell later.
3.) This THIRD body shell must be listed, and being available to the market (in shops) at least 4 weeks before the third race of the season (Arena33, Andernach,GER).

This rule is transparent and fair for everybody, and we are looking forward to the body shells coming out from the companies in the next months.
But once again: There will be maximum ONE new body shell per manufacturer ahead of ETS RD3. Companies can list their new body as soon as it is available, this means that it is also possible to have it ready for ETS RD2 in Aigen, AUT. But the same rule here – the body must be ready 4 weeks before this race as well.
The additional body must be the same for Pro Stock and Modified – it is not allowed to list different new bodies for each of the classes!

In the Pro Stock and Modified class, drivers can choose the bodies of their choice from the official list, and all listed body shells can get used in ANY weight option which is available from the manufacturers. From Ultra-Light to Regular, in Pro Stock and Modified you can run whatever you like!

Most body shells already listed for ETS Season #15 2022/23

As we received almost all information about the body shells from our ETS Body Shell Supporting companies, we like to let you know about these bodies now. The missing body shells will get completed as soon as possible and then you can find them in the ETS rules once they are ready and uploaded in our RULES section!

Body Shell lineups from the ETS supporting manufacturers

We have received all data from ZooRacing, apart from the third body shell for Pro Stock and Modified. The german based brand ZooRacing had a great last season at the ETS with the Wolverine being one of the most seen shells on track. The Gorilla was also very strong in FWD!

Here is the ZooRacing Body Shell Lineup for ETS Season #15 2022/23:

Wolverine MAX – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options), for 17.5 Stock and 40+ Masters (Regular 0,7mm)
Anti – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options)
New Body – to be announced latestly 4 weeks ahead of ETS RD3
Gorilla – for the FWD class (0,7mm)

Another company with an almost complete lineup is Xtreme Aerodynamics. They also opted to list one body shell for Pro Stock and Modified later. The well-known Twister is now their body on the list for 17.5 Stock and 40+ Masters – that will be interesting. Xtreme Aerodynamics from Italy is also having an FWD body shell on the list now and it will be interesting how the RSX will perform!

Here is the Xtreme Aerodynamics Body Shell Lineup for ETS Season #15 2022/23:

Twister – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options), for 17.5 Stock and 40+ Masters (Regular 0,7mm)
Twister Speciale – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options)
New Body – to be announced latestly 4 weeks ahead of ETS RD3
RSX – for the FWD class (0,7mm)

The italian based company Bittydesign listed everything – also apart from one new Pro Stock and Modified body shell which they have under development at the moment. Bittydesign will compete with their new Hiberya FWD body shell in the new season. The Hyper-HR and the M410 touring car bodies are the bodies of their choice until the third body will come out later for Pro Stock and Modified!

Here is the Bittydesign Body Shell Lineup for ETS Season #15 2022/23:

Hyper-HR – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options), for 17.5 Stock and 40+ Masters (Regular 0,7mm)
M410 – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options)
New Body – to be announced latestly 4 weeks ahead of ETS RD3
Hiberya – for the FWD class (0,7mm)

Blitz is the only company which took the chance to list ALL body shells for ETS Season #15 2022/23. This means that there will be nothing new coming onto the list during the season – something ETS racers can rely on! Blitz released a new FWD body called YRS and they will compete with their TCN body shell in the 17.5 Stock and 40+ Masters class.

Here is the Blitz Body Shell Lineup for ETS Season #15 2022/23:

TCN – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options), for 17.5 Stock and 40+ Masters (Regular 0,7mm)
SQ4 – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options)
Roadster – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options)
YRS – for the FWD class (0,7mm)

Protoform was not on the official ETS body shell list last season. The company had to go through some structural changes in the last years but now they are back at the ETS. For the moment, Protoform just listed their Europa FWD body shell, but they are developing one new body shell which they will list for all touring car classes as soon as it is ready. Until then they will not list one of their older body shells for any class. Great to see protoform coming back and we can expect something from them as this company is the most experienced in the body shell industry!

Here is the Protoform Body Shell Lineup for ETS Season #15 2022/23:

New Body – to be announced latestly 4 weeks ahead of ETS RD3
For Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options), for 17.5 Stock and 40+ Masters (Regular 0,7mm)
EUROPA– for the FWD class (0,7mm)

Italian manufacturer Mon-Tech has done the same as most of the others. They took the option with listing two bodies for Pro Stock and Modified and will present another one to the public later on. You may also see that there is no FWD body shell named. We just received all official fotos and details about Mon-Tech`s new FWD body shell which they will release in the next days. As soon as the body is officially released we will add it to the list as well!

Here is the Mon-Tech Body Shell Lineup for ETS Season #15 2022/23:

Zero – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options), for 17.5 Stock and 40+ Masters (Regular 0,7mm)
Imola – for Pro Stock and Modified (all weight options)
New Body – to be announced 4 weeks ahead of ETS RD3
New Body – for the FWD class (0,7mm)

Formula 1

We will post all information about the body shells and wings in the rules very soon. We are just about to make the final decisions about the rules here, so please be patient and check out the rules which will be online in the next days!

Thanks to all body shell supporting companies – let`s go racing!

The whole ETS crew would like to point out a massive THANK YOU to all body shell supporting companies for their cooperation. With our body shell rules we like to make the ETS racing transparent and not too complicated as it was at some point in the past. We see you trackside and we are excited which body shells you will rock around the tracks!

Uwe, Scotty, and the whole ETS crew!

ETS Champions Interview with Ronald Völker – Matrix Modified Champion Season #14 2021/22

ETS Champions Interview

Ronald Völker – ETS Matrix Modified Champion Season #14 2021/22

Ronald Völker is our newly crowned champion of the Matrix Modified class. He won three out of 5 races this season which was enough for him to claim his seventh personal ETS title in the premier modified class. For his actual chassis sponsor – Mugen Seiki – it was the first title and we asked Ronald about his feelings and the way to the top with Mugen Seiki!

But right before we step into the interview, let us take a quick look back on Ronald`s highlights on track during ETS Season #14 2021/22 on his way to the championship:

ETS – Hello Ronald, thank you for taking some time to sit down here with us. The first question is very simple: You are the new champion of the ETS Matrix Modified class, how does it feel to add a seventh title to your belt?

RV – It’s another great achievement I was aiming for but I am also happy for all my sponsors, especially Mugen Seiki and LRP electronics, to get another ETS Overall title.

ETS – There was a long way to go until you crossed the finish line in A2 at the last race in Daun. Was it your main goal to win the ETS title in the moment you joined the Mugen Seiki Team at the end of 2020? Or didn`t you expect to be on top with the new car and the team directly in the first season?

RV – I knew the MTC2 had potential right away so my goal was always to win races and ETS titles but also helping to develop the car and making it more attractive for the market. We’re on the good way and the journey isn’t ending😊

ETS – At the start of the season, you won the first two races at Arena33 in a very dominant way. In the third and fourth race (Apeldoorn and Neumünster) you took a second and fourth place. What was the key to not lose your confidence before the very important race in Daun? Is Daun a good place for you in general – you won there for Yokomo the last time as well?

RV – We knew why we had issues at the Neumünster ETS, however I always felt confident prior to Daun but also it’s a good place for me as I like the unusual track shape and the bungalows near by the track where you can relax and enjoy the evenings with friends, definitely a big plus and one of my favourite events during a year.

ETS – Tell us a little bit about your work with the Mugen Team around car designer Robert Pietsch and drivers like Eric Dankel, Sebastian Meibörg or Jonas Völker (to only name a few). How are you working together to prepare for these bigger races Like the ETS or German nationals for example?

RV – I have constant exchange with Robert to keep improving and in general we try to help each other within the team as good as we can not only before an event, as simple as it sounds.

ETS – What do you think are the main characteristics of the Mugen Seiki MTC2 touring car which you are using now? Is it suiting your driving style perfectly? Does it work almost everywhere with the same setup, or do you have to change a lot on the car when you arrive at a new racetrack?

RV – It’s a modern and up to date design which is easy to drive and does work everywhere. To maximize the performance, I would like to go testing and racing even more as there’s still room to explore its potential.

ETS – A lot of “hobby drivers” would like to know how often you go for practice and testing. It is for sure different right now because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but how was it looking like before that mess started? How much practice needs a world class driver like you to stay sharp on track?

RV – I like to go testing frequently, if not every week, then every two weeks. Not only to keep myself „sharp“, but like I said before, there is always the possibility to explore or improve the car, the electronics or even driving. Somehow before ETS Daun I wasn’t on the wheel for 6 weeks for some reasons, but that basically never happens normally.

ETS – When somebody would like to meet you during a practice day, where are the best chances to see Ronald Völker practicing. Do you have some indoor, or especially outdoor tracks you go for practice frequently?

RV – It is tough to have proper organized practice Indoors nowadays, so I mainly go to different kind of races all over Germany but also to France (Longwy), to get a decent amount of track time and competition. Outdoors, over the summer, I do most of testing in Andernach and Wächtersbach (near Frankfurt).

ETS – Now, with the ETS title in the bag – what are your goals for the rest of 2022? The EFRA euros will take place at the Hudy Arena in Trenčín (Slovakia), then we will see the German nationals at Arena33 in Andernach before the prestigious IFMAR worlds are scheduled to be in Gubbio (Italy) in September. Will you attend all these races and what do you expect from those different locations?

RV – Yes, I am planning to join as usual our German Nationals, the Euros and the Worlds in Gubbio. Can’t wait to compete at any of those events and especially looking forward to the Worlds as Gubbio seems like a very fast, but challenging track. Also, it has been almost four years since the last time in South Africa back in 2018 so like I said, can’t wait for it to happen.

ETS – Ronald, we wish you best of luck for the rest of 2022 and for all upcoming years of your RC racing career. Thank you for being a part of our ETS family and we see us trackside!

RV – Thanks a lot and stay safe!

ETS Champions Interview with Simon Lauter – Xray Pro Stock Champion, Season #14 2021/22

0

Awesomatix factory driver Simon Lauter is the newly crowned champion of the Xray Pro Stock class. He won three out of 5 races during Season #14 which earned him a well-deserved ETS title in the prestigious Pro Stock class. For Simon, it was the second title after he won his first at the end of Season #12 2018/19. We had the chance to asked Simon a couple of questions about his season and his expectations for the upcoming ETS championship.

But right before we step into the interview, let us take a quick look back on Simon`s highlights on track during ETS Season #14 2021/22 on his way to the championship:

ETS – Hello Simon, thank you for taking some time to answer a couple of questions which we like to ask our newly crowned Pro Stock champion. First, we like to congratulate you for your great achievement by winning your second overall title in the Xray Pro Stock class. How would you describe your feelings now, some weeks after the last race in Daun?

SL – Hi guys, thank you for giving me this opportunity to express some thoughts and answer your questions. And of course, thank you for the congratulations! Right now, I am just a little bit of “RC exhausted”. The last weeks have been quite stressful with a lot of racing, practicing and preparation and therefore I took some time for myself to regenerate and be in good shape for the upcoming challenges and the next season. Back to my feelings regarding the championship: Of course, I am super happy with everything and I am even more focussed on defending this title. Last time I was not able to defend it, and I will give everything to make it this time 😉

ETS – You started into the season with a double podium at Arena33. You finished third at both races behind a very dominant looking Alexandre Duchet and his Xray teammate Jan Ratheisky. Did you believe to have a shot for the overall title after these tough races in Andernach against very strong competitors?

SL –For me, the start to the season in Andernach was not bad at all. At Round 1 Alex was super strong and dominant, but I was close in Round 2 already (at least in my opinion). So, there was an important step forward between those races and with this in mind I was sure that the overall title is possible. But to be honest I am not somebody thinking about possibilities or stuff. As long as I had the chance to get the overall championship, I just tried to do everything I could.

ETS – With the race in Apeldoorn (RD3), it seemed that things started to turn around to your favour. You started second behind TQ Benson and you won the race after some thrilling finals including an epic pass against him. Was that the moment in which you started to believe in a realistic shot for the overall championship?

SL – Apeldoorn was important for me in many ways. It was my first win in three years, and it was one of those races where you just have this extra luck on your side. The finals were thrilling, and I managed to overtake Tim and beat Alex on track during qualifiers and finals. I knew that it would be tough to keep the momentum, but I used it as motivation and spent even more time on track preparing for the indoor season (as the switch from outdoor to indoor can have a big impact, especially as XRAY had a new car and less experience with it as before).

ETS – After our three outdoor races in Andernach and Apeldoorn, we headed to Neumünster for RD4 and you arrived there on early Friday morning, meaning you had missed out a complete day of free practice on Thursday. You must have been very confident there as you still managed to win the race in an impressive way. What was your mindset for the race in Neumünster?

SL – We had some smaller races before ETS in Neumünster (TOS at my home club and a race in Piding), and as I could win both I was super confident. But I did not miss practice day in Neumünster on purpose. I had a personal appointment which I could not cancel and therefore I had no other choice. So of course, I was worried with the lack of practice, but on Friday morning I had the opportunity to get the same tracktime as everybody else had the day before. With this in mind I knew that arriving late was not the disadvantage I worried about beforehand. The first practice with all the other guys was surprisingly good and this was the moment I was back at full race confidence, and this was the key. And coming back to your 3rd question I need to mention that Q3 and Q4 were the most important moments for this championship, as those were the “all or nothing” runs I had to win to deny Alex the championship. And those runs were the first in a long time where I could get the better end over my competitors with only a few tenths/hundredths. I missed out on those last tenths sometime and this was the moment I could change it at this event. Psychologically this was a big step for me.

ETS – As we all travelled to Daun, it was not clear that this race would be the last of the season. But in the end, you took another win wile your main competitor Duchet was not attending the race. Was it just pure emotions and happiness about your race win, or was there a moment in which you thought that it would have even better to beat him on track in Daun as well?

SL – I guess the one does not exclude the other. I was happy to take TQ and win the race, but I would have loved to race it out on track one more time, obviously. In the end I can’t change the fact that Jan and Alex did not attend RD5, I just had to do what everyone expected. And this is what makes me especially proud: We (Awesomatix) did not do any team tactics/politics as most people thought and told me before the race. I was able to show that I did not need those tactical games and that I was ready to fight for the championship on track, and on my own.

ETS – Now, as you are the overall champion of the Pro Stock class for a second time, let us talk a little bit about your Awesomatix car, the team, and your other supporters. Winning a Pro Stock title is a very big achievement for every driver at the ETS, but it is also very rewarding for all manufacturers. How important was the teamwork with your Awesomatix teammates on the way to your second title?

SL – I want to mention that this is a team result. Especially after the rather big gap at RD1, everyone worked hard, tried different setups and parts and we had a great exchange of information. Nobody gave up, everyone was putting hard work into this. Especially Oleg and Max were dedicated to get some wins for the team and we were able to achieve them together. Of course, the requirements in stock and modified are not the same, but a good result in Pro Stock is only possible with the right car (easy to drive with good cornerspeed) making Pro Stock important for most customers (as only a minority of those are racing modified). Nevertheless, I am sure we have a great car for modified as well and I am sure that a modified win for Awesomatix will follow soon.
Apart from that it is also great to have some fun with the Team in the pits, motivate each other or have some chats about stuff offside the racetrack. Talking about other supporters, I must thank my sponsors supporting me in the best way possible. And I guess this is the correct moment to add Tim Wahl and Team Schrauberstüble 😊 to the discussion. It helped me a lot that we started to work even closer this year and shared setups, practiced together, and just supported each other.

ETS – How important are the batteries in stock racing classes in your opinion? Is it important to use new batteries more frequently or is it more about charging and discharging them correctly to get the best performance out of them?

SL – As the motors are handout at the ETS the only changeable source of power and top speed is the battery. With the RPM limiter, top speed is not a main factor anymore (as it should be the same for everybody) but there are notable differences in punch at the exit of a corner. I think the choice of a manufacturer with a good line-up of configurations is important (f.e. bigger batteries outdoor, smaller ones for indoor). I don’t use new batteries all the time or stuff like that. I just cycle them every run to get the best power output and discharge them to storage voltage after usage. But I don’t think there are big secrets within this process.

ETS – When somebody would like to meet you on track, where are the best chances to see you practicing? Do you have some indoor, or outdoor tracks you go for practice frequently?

SL – Well, I live in the north of Munich, therefore Bavaria is the best area to meet me on track. In detail there is a high chance in Augsburg (TSV1871), as this is my home club with a permanent outdoor track and a big indoor track with ETS carpet we can use once every one or two months. This indoor season, a new permanent track opened (Fuchstalring at MC Welden) and I visited them once a week on average. So those two clubs are the ones I spent most time at. Apart from that I try to prepare on tracks similar to the track the upcoming event takes place. Therefore, I can be found in Türkheim if an outdoor ETS is pending.

ETS – Simon, you worked your way up to the top of the ETS in the last years. In the past, you raced at the Tamiya cup as well and you won a world champion title there. What can you tell people who are relatively new in the RC hobby? At which races they should start at first and what can they do to get even better and faster?

SL – In my opinion, the biggest the decision is not the series you want to start, it is to make sure that you start with racing continuously. Practicing at a local track hundreds of hours can make you a local hero, but multiple races a year make you a better overall driver for different conditions and layouts.
Once the decision to start racing is made, the best way to start is a series that is common at your club or common with the club members, as this will get you into a group of people and give extra motivation to get better and learn faster. Most of the time, those series will be either Tamiya Cup or RCK Challenge in Germany (TOS up to a certain point as well). The budget to start is lower compared to ETS and the atmosphere is more relaxed – at least for Tamiya Cups as far as I can tell. That’s why I am still racing some Tamiya races – not frequently anymore, but I try to mix my racing schedule as I need those more “fun aimed” races to calm down.

ETS – Before we come to an end now, we wish you the best of luck for the rest of 2022 and for all upcoming years of your RC racing career. Thank you for being a part of our ETS family and we see us trackside! The final words are now up to you Simon!

SL – Final words, what a pressure….Thank you for having me! I am optimistic 2022 will be a good year for everyone. I hope we can have many races this year and enjoy our beautiful hobby. Stay healthy and as always: See you on track!
