ETS Q1 Report RD5 Season #15 2022/23

0

The first round of qualifying happened on late Friday evening and was as intense and close as expected between the top drivers of every ETS racing class. Three more rounds will follow on Saturday, but now, sit back, relax, and read out report from the opening round of qualifying in the Trans World Hotel Auefeld in Hann. MĂĽnden at ETS RD5.

Matrix Modified

Völker takes intense Q1 from Urbain and Rheinard

In the first round of Matrix Modified qualifying we saw a nail-biting thriller from the first lap until the finish line. Ronald Völker (Mugen Seiki), Marc Rheinard (Awesomatix), and Lucas Urbain (Awesomatix) changed their positions (and the lead of the race) in almost every lap. In the end, it was Ronald who had the best outcome after the leading cars had to avoid another car which was lying on its roof in the infield section of the track. Völker took the win from Urbain and Rheinard as they finished in about 0,3 of a second. Christopher Krapp (Yokomo) and Michele Manzo (Awesomatix) took fourth and fifth for the round.

Awesomatix ProStock

Pro Stock Q1 goes to Lauter in front of Benson and Bultynck

Simon Lauter confirmed his top seed result with a win in the first round of Awesomatix Pro Stock qualifying. He was able to take the win in front of Tim Benson and European Champion Olivier Bultynck. Benson and Bultynck posted the faster hot laps compared to Lauter, but the consistency of the current ETS champion was the best and he got rewarded with the round 1 TQ.
Adam Izsay and Patrick Danielsen finished fourth and fifth for the round with their times coming from the second fastest group.

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Sparbier wins Q1 at home race in Hann. MĂĽnden

Local hero Sören Sparbier took the win in the first round of Hobbywing Frontwheel qualifying with his Serpent car. It was a close fight between him, Steven Olsen, and Roman Borschel during the entire run until Olsen dropped back in the last minute of the race after a small mistake. Borschel and Sparbier battled it out until the very last lap when Sparbier crossed the line 0,566 seconds ahead of Borschel. A perfect start for young Sören Sparbier into his home race. Stefan Schulz (Xray), Steven Olsen (Awesomatix), and Manuel Stankowitz (ARC) completed the top 5.

Borschel takes thrilling opening qualifyer on Friday evening

The first round of qualifying went to Roman Borschel. He drove flawless and took the win with a gap of 0,032 of a second (!) from second placed Daniel Pöhlmann. Henrik Heitsch was another 0,013 seconds behind (!) in which was a sensational race. The top three – only separated by 0,045!
Borschel was very happy when he came down the driver stand while Pöhlmann was a little disappointed to miss the TQ run by such a small margin. Joshua Winkler and Henrik Heitsch completed the top 5 and we are already looking forward to the three remaining rounds of qualifying on Saturday. Can Pöhlmann and Heitsch fight back, or will Borschel take his first ever ETS pole position?

ToniSport 40+ Masters

First Masters class qualifier goes to Stankowitz

Top seed Manuel Stankowitz (Awesomatix) took the opening round of qualifying in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class. Stankowitz had a very clean race and won the heat with a very impressive gap of 3,2 seconds ahead of Ulrich Dinger (Awesomatix) and Andreas Myrberg (Iris). The fastest lap of the race was also to Stankowitz favour which must give him a lot of confidence for his racing on Saturday. Michel Zierold (Awesomatix) and Frank Fuchs (Awesomatix) rounded out the top 5 on Friday evening at the Trans World Hotel Auefeld in Hann. MĂĽnden!

Scorpion Formula

Stiebler takes Friday evening qualifier from Kölbel and Valent

The first round of Scorpion Formula qualifying was a close affair between Andreas Stiebler (Schumacher) and René Kölbel (Xray). Both posted almost the same hot lap, and their medium time was close together as well. It looks like they have the best 5-minute pace right now and the next three rounds of qualifying will bring the decision for the overall TQ.
Behind the leading duo, Gergö Valent (Xray), Herbert Weber (Xray), and Alex Bremer (Schumacher) made it into the top 5 of Q1 in the Formula class.

ETS Controlled Practice Report RD5 Season #15 2022/23

0

Controlled Practice

After two rounds of free, and another two rounds of controlled practice, we are looking forward to the start of qualifying at ETS RD5 in Hann. MĂĽnden. The first of four rounds is scheduled for today, with three more rounds to follow on Saturday. Due to the three-day event, practice was limited, and drivers had to adapt to the track very fast. The new carpet got into the groove quickly and the level of traction is already very good.

Matrix Modified

Mugen Seiki`s Völker on top after practice at German ETS with Rheinard`s Awesomatix right in toe

Ronald Völker is the top seed after controlled practice here in Hann. Münden. The Mugen Seiki factory driver posted the three fastest consecutive laps in seeding practice with the very small margin of 0.013 of a second over Awesomatix lead driver Marc Rheinard. A very good start into the event for Völker, who won the EWS International race in Great Britain last weekend. Yokomo`s Yannic Prümper, Lucas Urbain (Awesomatix) and Christopher Krapp (Yokomo) completed the top 5 and we can expect super close qualifying action as many drivers are crazy fast and no single mistake will be allowed to finish in a good position. The top 4 drivers of the actual championship rankings made it into the top 5 which shows that the fight for the title is going to be very intense!

Awesomatix ProStock

Lauter is top seed in Pro Stock after strong practice performance. Benson and Fritschler currently in second and third.

Reigning Pro Stock champion Simon Lauter was absolutely on fire in seeding practice where he outpaced the rest of his competitors by 0,25 of a second over three laps. A good margin in the ultra-competitive Pro Stock class which shows that Lauter is very hungry to defend his overall championship title. Tim Benson, Marvin Fritschler, Olivier Bultynck, and Frederik Mikkelsen completed an all Awesomatix top 5 in practice here in Hann. MĂĽnden! Let`s see who will make it into the A-Main at the end of qualifying. Lauter is slightly favourized to claiim TQ but it will not be an easy task for him!

Heitsch tops practice in Hann. MĂĽnden with his ARC A10

Henrik Heitsch was the fastest after three rounds of free practice and two rounds of controlled practice at the Trans World Hotel Auefeld. After not attending the last two ETS races, Heitsch is back in business with his ARC A10 and will start from first place into qualifying. Behind him we saw four Awesomatix drivers who made it into the top 5, separated by only 0,025 of a second. Crazy how competitive the field of drivers is here in Hann. MĂĽnden. ToniSport 40+ Masters

Championship contender Stankowitz stamps authority onto practice sessions at ETS RD5

In the ToniSport 40+ Masters class, Manuel Stankowitz (Awesomatix A800MMX) showed a good form in practice. While championship leader Toni Mateo was not able to fly from Gran Canaria to Germany in the last minute due to family commitments, it is a great chance for Stankowitz to close the gap to Mateo this weekend. But that is still far, far away and the competition looks very strong. Sammy Pajalin from Finland was super quick, as well as Andreas Myrberg with the brand-new Iris ONE touring car. Michel Zierlod and Joachim Altenhof completed the top 5.

Under the Hood – Yavuz Kura`s Team Associated TC3

1

Yavuz Kura is racing RC cars since 27 years and has seen a lot in the world of racing all around the world attending world championships and a couple of euros. He is running a Team Associated TC3 here in Hann. MĂĽnden as he is also a very passionated collector of “old school” RC cars. His TC3 is out of the box as it came 21 years ago 🙂 and is equipped with a set of the famous blue factory team aluminum screws. Yavuz told us about his car and his passion:

I love older RC cars and the history of RC campanies as well. I have a fable especially for Yokomo and Team Associated cars. When I think about these two brands, they are immediateley connecting my thoughts to Masami Hirosaka (Yokomo) and Mark Pavidis (Team Associated) which I luckily meet many times in the past. I am happy that I own this amazing TC3 and decided to race it here in Hann. MĂĽnden. The design of the body is in Mark Pavidis famous scheme and I enjoy every lap with the car on track!

ETS Track Check Hann. MĂĽnden, RD5 Season #15 2022/23

0

The fifth round of the actual ETS Season is an indoor event in the center of Germany. As it was not easy to find a location available and suiting the demands of the Euro Touring Series, the crew is very thankful that the Trans World Hotel Auefeld is hosting our event this weekend! As always, it takes a lot of work to set up an indoor event and the team around Uwe Rheinard started on Tuesday to prepare everything for the ETS racers.

[the_ad_group id=”141″]

The carpet is brand new and will ensure the grip level the drivers are used to have at the races of the Euro Touring Series. The track was built under the direction of ETS racer Tim Benson who created the layout while the ETS crew and many members of the RCCT MĂĽnden helped during the construction process. The result is great and nice flowing racetrack which will be the place to be in the next three days!

Enjoy a quick walkaround through the hotel and a first view on the racetrack of ETS RD5 in our Video!

Everything is set for ETS RD5 now and we hope that you like the track and the whole facility here in Hann. MĂĽnden. The madness will start on Friday morning when we will open the doors for 270 highly motivated ETS racers – let`s go racing!

Vogl signs with Team Yokomo

0

Japanese RC manufacturer Yokomo announced the signing of Austrian Stock and Modified ace Dominic Vogl to their Onroad team. Vogl had a good time with different cars in the last years and will strengthen the Yokomo team around Krapp, PrĂĽmper, Lee, Jung, and Hovgaard from now on. Read the official statement from Team Yokomo here:

We are pleased to welcome a great driver to Team Yokomo. Dominic Vogl is a top driver in the touring car stock category and will be driving the BD11 as early as the next ETS race. We hope his success will make our products even better and bring his spirit to many Yokomo fans!

First and foremost, I want to thank Toni Rheinard for the exclusive opportunity to run whatever chassis I preferred in the past years. Many thanks for this unique support since years! After a small RC break for me in the last months, I received the great chance to join the Yokomo factory team and I couldn’t be happier that everything came together that fast.
I want to thank Yokomo, especially Christopher Krapp and Yannic PrĂĽmper, which are as well great friends off the track to put the trust in me. For sure I am motivated more than ever before to help the team achieving great results! My first race will be the ETS already this weekend, and I am really looking forward to it with my brand new BD11!

5 things to watch during ETS RD5 in Hann. MĂĽnden, GER

The fifth round of ETS Season #15 2022/23 is leading the ETS circus to Hann. Münden in the centre of Germany. The indoor season has now started in all European countries, and most racers already took the chance to practice or race on carpet to be well prepared. The ETS crew will start to built up the carpet track in the Trans World Hotel Auefeld from Wednesday on, and everybody is looking forward to the event at a new venue. As before any ETS event, there are some things to watch out for. Here are our “5 things to watch” during ETS RD5 in Hann. Münden.

[the_ad_group id=”141″]

1) Championship battles

The fight for the overall ETS titles is still open in all of our six racing classes. Some are closer as others, but nothing is decided yet. While the Awesomatix drivers Dominik Reile (Orca 17.5 Stock) and Toni Mateo (ToniSport 40+ Masters) are having a gap of 5 and 6 points ahead of their competitors, it is even closer in the other categories.
In the Matrix Modified class, the fight is as intense as it has not been for many years. Four drivers are only separated by two points with Marc Rheinard (Awesomatix) and Christopher Krapp (Yokomo) leading the field tied on points from Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) and Ronald Völker (Mugen Seiki).
The Awesomatix Pro Stock class is in control of the Awesomatix duo Max Mächler and Simon Lauter – both having scored 906 points so far – but who will win the championship at the end of Season #15?
In the Hobbywing Frontwheel division we can expect a close showdown between Stefan Schulz (Xray) and Steven Olsen (Awesomatix) who are separated by only one point while the Scorpion Formula class is a close affair as well between Andreas Stiebler (Schumacher), René Kölbel (Xray), and Jan Ratheisky (Xray) who has a chance for the title as well with a good result in Hann. Münden.

It is “Game ON” at the Euro Turing Series and the first carpet race of the season will be the start of a great showdown for sure!

2) New Ride FWD tires

Together with Ride and some test drivers, the ETS has worked hard behind the scenes to improve the tires in the FWD class. The focus was not so much on performance in case of lap times, as the FWD class should simply not become too fast. But Ride did a great job and improved the tires a lot in case of the balance and a perfect rotation of the tires. The tires are still belted but have no patterns anymore – they are a full slick now.
The wheels have changed from grey to white colour and feature 16 spokes instead of only 10 spokes. During testing, the drivers reported that the balance of the car was at the same level without needing a lot of setup changes which was a great aspect. We like to thank Ride for their great cooperation to get us where we are now with the FWD class. Watch out for the new Ride FWD tires on track.

3) Ellerbrock`s Awesomatix debut

The silly season is right underway, and some drivers are changing teams and sponsors until the end of the year. One of the first ETS racers who announced a change in his racing programme was Lukas Ellerbrock. He drove for Xray in the last years (with great success) and made the switch to Awesomatix now. It will be interesting to watch him at the first race with his new A800MMX ride. Mostly, racers perform very well (especially) at the first race with their new brand (a fact which is very mysterious), and a lot of people will keep an eye on Ellerbock’s performance in Hann. Münden. Lukas can rely on the support of a great team and there is no doubt that he will do well for Awesomatix in the future.

4) Project IRIS

Since a couple of weeks, the RUDDOG project IRIS under the lead of former Swedish international top driver Andreas Myrberg is getting a very hot topic. Andreas is working on this project since a very long time, and now it seems that we will see the first prototype cars in action at ETS RD5 in Hann. MĂĽnden. On his Facebook page, Andreas announced to race in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class himself to test the car in race conditions. He will bring his small team of high-quality drivers with him which consists of Dionys Stadler, Alex Kunkler, and Dominik Schmid. These guys are all very experienced and fast like hell. Alex and Dominik will compete in the Awesomatix Pro Stock class while Dionys will race in the Matrix Modified division with IRIS.
Everybody who knows Andreas Myrberg knows that he is so addicted to RC and the industry, and everybody can be sure that he has put a lot of work and effort to get the car on track which he designed, and which will now hit the market under the flag of RUDDOG. We wish him all the best and a great start with project IRIS. We hope that the ETS media team can steal one of the cars during the weekend to make an “Under the Hood” report with it 🙂

5) New Matrix touring car tires

Another further developed product are the Matrix carpet tires for the ETS touring car classes. Here, the focus was on the side of the “break-in” time. As most racers know, carpet tires sometimes need 2-3 batteries to perform well. To achieve a tire which performs also good in the first run, Cristian Boni from Matrix tires worked on the composition of the rubber compound to get the tires exactly there. The result of various compounds and tests is a tire which is immediately good after some laps on the track. The feedback from many test drivers was the same all the way and therefore the ETS decided to use these slightly changed tires for the upcoming indoor season. As tires are always crucial in case of a balance in performance and lifetime, we hope that everybody will be happy with the updated tires. In our tests, performance and lifetime had been good and we like to thank Matrix tires for their hard work to make a good product even better!

We hope you enjoyed our “5 things to watch at ETS RD5”. But where are you watching? For everybody who will watch us from the distance – we are sorry that you will not be with us in Hann- Münden. But hey, you can enjoy all the racing action from home here on our page. You will find our video stream in the LIVE section of our website during the event! We expect the fifth round of ETS Season #15 2022/23 to be another epic event!

Orlowski wins big at Florida Carpet Championships

Michal Orlowski had a great week of racing in the United States where he was inthe mix at the Florida Carpet Championships at the amazing Beachline Raceway. The race saw a 2WD and 4WD portion (in Stock and Modified classes) and the overall champions got crowned by combining the final results of both classes.

The field of drivers was fully packed with offroad top stars, and Michal Orlowski was able to take the overall title of the single event. He was able to finish second on the podium in 2WD behind race winner Dakotha Phend (TLR) and in front of Spencer Rivkin (Associated) in the first part of the event and was in a good position before the 4WD portion.

Right after the 2WD event, the 4WD cars were hitting the track and after Phend, Champlin, and Orlowski took one A-Main win each, it was Orlowski with the lowest points score to take the win in 4WD after some amazing races. With his win in 4WD and his second place in 2WD, Michal Orlowski became the newly crowned Florida Carpet Championship winner – a big deal for the european guest!
