Special Awards at ETS RD4 in Luxembourg, LUX

0

Since the start of ETS Season #15 2022/23, we are giving some “special” awards to persons and drivers who have attracted attention during our races. This is a way to highlight them, and to show everybody what the ETS is all about. It is not only a highly competitive racing series, but also a family which is enjoying their events together. A lot of talents have grown up in the Euro Touring Series and have made their way up to the top level of our sport. Here are our special award winners from ETS RD4 in Luxembourg:

“YOUNGEST RACER”

This is the newest award at the ETS, and we gave it away for the very first time. Lucas Ott from Germany received it during the trophy presentation, and he was so happy about getting this award at his first ever ETS race. He was in Luxembourg together with his father, Sascha Ott, and he raced in the Orca 17.5 Stock class where he finished 24th overall.
The 11-year-old drove really good and had a lot of fun with his beautiful “Sonic” airbrush body shell from Brush PRC on the track. His father Sascha watched all the races from the side-line and was proud to see his son doing so well in the Mini Circuit “Ville de Luxembourg”. We hope to see Lucas and Sascha at many more races in the future!

“SPIRIT OF THE EVENT”

The award went to Abidallah Al-fihan and Mihai Iancu from Romania. They travelled to Luxembourg all the way from Bukarest, the capitol or their home country Romania. It was a long drive of 2000 km (!) one way for them, and they enjoyed the weekend at ETS RD4 a lot.
Abidallah raced in the Matrix Modified class (22nd), and Mihai participated in the Hobbywing Frontwheel class (20th). We are very proud that there are people all around Europe traveling to our races, especially when it is such a big distance. The “Spirit of the Event” award is our way to say  THANK YOU to Abidallah and Mihai for coming to the ETS all the way from Bukarest!

“ONE TO WATCH”

Benjamin Elbisser was “one to watch” for sure in Luxembourg. He is getting better and better from race to race and was racing in the Matrix Modified, and Awesomatix Pro Stock class at ETS RD4. Together with his father he is working hard to improve, and he finished 14th overall in the Pro Stock class in Luxembourg. His result in Modified was even more impressive as Benjamin was able to bump up from the B-Main into the A-Main. He started and finished in 11th place which was a great result for him. We will watch Benjamin progressing in the future and we are happy to have him together with his father in our ETS family!

Matrix Modified

Awesomatix driver Urbain wins ETS RD4 in Luxembourg

A2 – The second A-Main of the Matrix Modified class started with a little shock moment as Lucas Urbain (Awesomatix) had a bad start off the line with his Awesomatix A800MMX. He lost some tenths of a second due to this and Rheinard (Awesomatix) was right on his tail. The field approached the first chicane very closely and somehow Rheinard`s car was getting out of shape and touched Völker`s Mugen ride. Völker dropped back to P5 while Rheinard stayed in second. Völker immediately overtook the car in front of him and was back to P4 in the first lap. But after another unlucky collision in front of Völker, he had to retire his car after the second lap of the trace.
Meanwhile, Urbain was leading the race but also had some trouble when his car got loose in the second lap at the entry of the chicane. That little power slide allowed Rheinard to close again, and we saw a nice fight for the lead until the last minute of the race. Rheinard pushed hard to stay in striking distance do Urbain who looked strong for the rest of the run again. After 3:30 minutes, Rheinard was too close to the curbing in the Laguna Seca uphill section and his car ended in the barriers. Rheinard`s race was done. That was a big break for Lucas in the front who was able to take the win in A2 and his first overall victory at the ETS. Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) and Robert Pietsch (Mugen Seiki) took second and third place in A2 with Michele Manzo and Jan Ratheisky completing the top 5.
Lucas Urbain got a lot of applause and hugs when he was coming down the drivers stand and he was really happy and emotional right after the race. Congratulations for your first ETS win Lucas, you did amazingly well!

In the minutes after the race, Patrick Beck had the chance to talk to race winner Lucas Urbain:

Wow I am feeling amazing right now. The second final was a huge challenge as I didn`t get off the line as expected. My car missed a little traction in the first laps, maybe the tires had been a little too cold or so. That also was the reason why I had that little slide in the second lap which allowed Marc to come closer again. But after the first laps, my tires started to work, and I was able to control the race. I noticed that Marc was pushing very hard behind me and when he rolled his car after three and a half minutes, the pressure was gone. In the last minute of the run my gap was huge and I started to think about my possible first ever ETS win. It was very emotional and not easy to bring it home but, in the end, I got the job done and I am super happy as it is the greatest achievement in my whole RC career until now. I like to thank all my sponsors for their current support – without you that would not have happened!

Lucas Urbain (FR) Awesomatix/Orca

A3 – Lucas Urbain watched the last A-Main from the side line and saw Marc Rheinard taking the win from first on the grid. Rheinard won A3 ahead of Ronald Völker and both drivers joined race winner Urbain on the Matrix Modified podium. Yannic Prümper finished fourth overall ahead of jan Ratheisky in fifth. It was a great day of modified racing and we have another driver in the circle of ETS winners with Lucas Urbain now!

Here are the overall results of the Matrix Modified class together with the equipment the drivers used in Andernach:

Winner B-Main: Lorenzo van Leeuwen (NL)
Winner C-Main: Peter Ende (NL) Schumacher

Awesomatix ProStock

Lauter to step on the top spot of the Pro Stock podium

A2 – Simon Lauter took another win in the second A-Main of the Awesomatix Pro Stock class. He had a perfect start on used tires and was driving without any mistake during the entire run. Second place starter Olivier Bultynck was running right behind Lauter but could not ride any serious attacks on Lauter`s A800MMX. The leading duo pulled away from the rest of the field and behind them we saw a thrilling fight for the positions between Max Mächler, Louis Kretschmer, Jan Ratheisky, and Frederik Mikkelsen. But in the end, nobody was able to overtake anybody and as these amazing drivers just made no mistakes, they finished in the same order they lined up on the grid.
With his win in A2, Simon Lauter will walk away from Luxembourg with maximum points for the overall championship. The fight for second and third will come down to A3.

Simon Lauter had the following words for our media team:

My whole weekend was very good. I have never been here before and like to highlight the track at first. It is pure enjoyment to race on the Mini Circuit “Ville de Luxembourg” and I can only recommend this location here. My car worked perfect all weekend long. Qualifying was a close affair and I have never seen so many super close results on a track which is so demanding on the driving side. I like to send greetings to Tim Choice (Wahl) who could not be with us this weekend. He prepared our team very well in the last months and we are all benefiting from that. Now, time to prepare for the Indoor season!

Simon Lauter (DE) Awesomatix/LRP

A3 – The last A-Main of the Awesomatix Pro Stock class was a close fight between Max Mächler, Olivier Bultynck, Jan Ratheisky, and Louis Kretschmer. Max was able to get into the lead in the middle of the race and took the win to secure second overall. With Bultynck in third place overall, it is a complete podium lockout for the Awesomatix team in the Pro Stock class. Jan Ratheisky (Xray) finished fourth, and Lous Kretschmer in fifth position!

Here are the overall results of the Awesomatix Pro Stock class together with the equipment the drivers used in Andernach:

Winner B-Main: Sören Sparbier (DE) Serpent
Winner C-Main: Kevin Sparbier (DE) Mugen Seiki
Winner D-Main: Trygve Bull Freng (NO) ARC

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Masterclass from Schulz as he takes overall victory in Luxembourg

A2 – Stefan Schulz took the win in the first A-Main of the Hobbywing Frontwheel class. And with the start of the second final, there was no doubt that he would win the event. His Xray car looked amazingly fast on track and Stefan`s driving was absolutely on point as well. A combination which was just impossible to beat for the rest of the field. Stefan drove a perfect final in A2 and took the win with a massive gap of 8.6 (!) seconds from Jacques Libar and Roman Borschel.
Right behind the top 3, a nice and close fight for fourth place was going on between Kevin Sparbier, Steven Olsen, Sören Sparbier, and Max Weffers. Kevin Sparbier had the best outcome and took fourth in A2.

Stefan Schulz was delighted after A2 and said:

My Xray X4F was unreal. It felt as good as never before and I am more than happy with my performance. I didn`t make one single mistake all weekend long and that is something I am always happy about because it is the key for good results. The track here in Luxembourg was maximum fun to drive on, and I like to thank everybody for the great racing action in the FWD class.

Stefan Schulz (DE) Xray

A3 – The third A-Mainwas another great show of FWD racing – this time between Jacques Libar and Steven Olsen. Steven was able to take the win the race in the last corner (Laguna Seca) before the timing loop to snatch away second overall from Libar. They both shared the podium with race winner Stefan Schulz as Roman Borschel and Kevin Sparbier completed the top 5.

Here are the overall results of the Hobbywing Frontwheel class together with the equipment the drivers used in Andernach:

Winner B-Main: Robert van der Wolf (NL)
Winner C-Main: Sascha Ott (DE) Xray

Orca 17.5 Stock

Schmid becomes another first time ETS race winner in Season #15

A2 – For some unexpected reasons, Dominik Reile had another very bad first lap. This time he made a mistake in the down slope of the Laguna Seca and drove through the grass. Kevin Schmid and Jasmin Donath passed by and took the leading positions in A2. But as Jasmin Donath also made a costly mistake, she had to retire from the race and it was kind of “Merry Christmas” for Kevin Schmid out front. He took the win with 6.4 seconds ahead of sixth place starter Daniel Pöhlmann, and Joshua Winkler. Dominik Reile was not able to recover from his first lap trouble and finished only eight this time.

It was the first win for Kevin Schmid at the ETS, and he was almost speechless when our reporter asked him about his feelings:

I am feeling fantastic right now and I have never had so many emotions in my whole life, I think. My race was good, and after Dominik made the mistake in lap one, I was lucky and took the lead. But once I had that massive gap to the others, I started to think and tried to make no mistakes. I was starting to tremble, and it was kind of standing on top of a huge waterfall looking all the way down into nowhere. I like to thank all my supporters, especially Simon Lauter who is always there for me during race weekends. I am still speechless and can`t believe that I have won an ETS race!

Kevin Schmid (DE) Awesomatix

A3 – The last A-Main of the Orca 17.5 Stock class went to Joshua Winkler. He had a brilliant drive and was able to pass Dominik Reile in the last lap of the race. A very important result for Winkler which brought him up to P2 on the podium in the end. Jasmin Donath will step on the last spot of the podium in third place while TQ Dominik Reile had to settle for fourth overall here at ETS RD4 in Luxembourg.

Here are the overall results of the Orca 17.5 Stock class together with the equipment the drivers used in Andernach:

Winner B-Main: Christophe Choque (LU)
Winner C-Main: Christoph Nungässer (DE)

ToniSport 40+ Masters

Mateo from Gran Canaria wins Masters class at Mini Circuit “Ville de Luxembourg”

A2 – Toni Mateo has strong nerves. That is nothing new for us, but he proofed it again in the second A-Main of the ToniSport 40+ Masters class. Right after the start, Manuel Stankowitz started to hunt Mateo down and was in striking distance for the entire race. It finally was not enough for Stankowitz who pushed too hard in the last lap, allowing Ullrich Dinger to take second place. Toni Mateo made no mistake out front and brought home a well-deserved win in the ToniSport 40+ Masters class.

A visibly freezing Toni Mateo told us after A2:

I had a bad start again. I need to get better on this as I had a lot of bad starts this season and I don`t know why. But luckily, I could defend my position against Ulrich (Dinger) and Manuel (Stankowitz) who looked slightly faster than me. It was a great weekend here in Luxembourg, but now I am looking forward to fly back to Gran Canaria where sunny weather is waiting for me 😊.

Toni Mateo (ES) Awesomatix

A3 – With race winner Toni Mateo watching the last A-Main from the side line, it was Manuel Stankowitz who took advantage of a clear track in front of him. Manuel drove a solid race and his gap over second placed Ulrich Dinger was 0.7 seconds as they crossed the finish line. With the results from A3, Stankowitz and Dinger joined Mateo on the podium of the ToniSport 40+ Masters class at ETS RD4 in Apeldoorn.

Here are the overall results of the ToniSport 40+ Masters class together with the equipment the drivers used in Andernach:

Winner B-Main: Elibert Sievers (NL) Awesomatix
Winner C-Main: Roy Braten (NO)

Scorpion Formula

Ratheisky crowns perfect weekend with winning the Formula class

A2 – The second A-Main of the Scorpion Formula class was another show of beautiful Formula racing at the front. Ratheisky brought the field around the first corners from his pole position and was able to maintain this place until the end of the run. Andreas Stiebler found a way by second place starter Luka Jovicic and started to close the gap to Jan Ratheisky. Over the finish line, they only had been separated by 0.3 seconds, but it was enough for Jan to seal the overall victory in Luxembourg.

Jan had the following statement for us:

I really enjoyed racing in the Formula class and I like that the competition got closer since we are running with the foam tires. My weekend was good and I always tried to make no mistakes with Luka and Andreas right behind me. Congratulations to them for their results here in Luxembourg. See you at the next one!

Jan Ratheisky (DE) Xray/Nosram

A3 – Luka Jovicic won the third and last A-Main of the Scorpion Formula class. A great result on his home track, which earned him second place overall behind 2018 world champion Jan Ratheisky and 2022 world champion Andreas Stiebler. Luka Jovicic was showing great driving all weekend long on his home track and P2 is a well-deserved result for him. Andreas Stiebler takes third on the podium just one week after the biggest win of his RC career (world champion in Italy).

Here are the overall results of the Scorpion Formula class together with the equipment the drivers used in Andernach:

Winner B-Main: Susanne Reile (DE)

ETS A1 Report RD4 Season #15 2022/23

0

After a beautiful day of ETS racing, the first complete round of finals was scheduled for Saturday afternoon. We saw a lot of great races, smiling bump up drivers, and proud A-Main winners. The second and third leg will happen tomorrow, and you can follow our live coverage on Sunday as well. ETS RD4 in Luxembourg is a very nice and relaxed event and all racers really appreciate the work of the hosting club and the ETS crew. Let`s find out what happened today…

[the_ad_group id=”144″]

Matrix Modified

Halfway there as Urbain takes impressive win in A1

At the sound of the tone, we saw Lucas Urbain bringing the field around the first corners and he quickly was able to slightly pull away from Marc Rheinard and Ronald Völker. In the first lap, Ronald found his way by Rheinard as he made a brilliant move coming out of the tight chicane in the infield section of the track where Rheinard’s car was sliding a bit. While Urbain was still increasing his gap to Rheinard and Völker, it was the battle between the Awesomatix of Marc and the Mugen Seiki of Ronald which captivated the spectators around the track for most of the time. Marc was trying to set Völker under immense pressure and Marc’s front bumper once said hello to Ronald’s rear bumper coming down the hill at the exit of the Laguna Seca section.
At the end of the run, Lucas Urbain took a well-deserved win in A1 in front of Ronald Völker and Rheinard and earned a lot of applause coming down the drivers stand. Lucas needs one more win tomorrow to make it happen but as his pace was very impressive, he can have a good rest tonight. The fight between Rheinard and Völker will continue tomorrow as well and right now, nothing is finally decided. Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) and Remí Callens (Mugen Seiki) finished fourth and fifth in the first A-Main of the Matrix Modified class.

Awesomatix ProStock

A1 goes to Lauter and Awesomatix

The first A-Main of the Awesomatix Pro Stock class was in the hands of Simon Lauter and his Awesomatix A800MMX. Lauter had a brilliant start and had pretty much “checked out” after the first two laps. His win never seemed to be in danger as the battle for the positions behind him had been very intense between Bultynck, Mächler, Kretschmer, and Ratheisky.
In lap 6, Bultynck got a little bit out of shape entering the Laguna Seca and Max Mächler could not avoid a contact anymore. Tough racing luck for Bultynck as he dropped all the way down to eight position. Max Mächler was able to continue in second and could defend this place against Jan Ratheisky and Louis Kretschmer until the end of the race. Frederik Mikkelsen finished in fifth place ahead of local hero Jacques Libar in sixth.
The second A-Main is on schedule on early Sunday morning and if you don’t want to miss the decision for the win just tune into our Sunday livestream!

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Schulz continues winning and takes A1 on Saturday afternoon

The first of three Hobbywing Frontwheel A-Mains went to plan for pole sitter Stefan Schulz. He drove to an unchallenged win, and nobody was able to create pressure on him. Jacques Libar had his rear-view mirror full of Steven Olsen`s Awesomatix A800FX Evo while they were fighting for second and third position during the entire run. After five minutes, Stefan Schulz took the win with Jacques Libar, Steven Olsen, Sören Sparbier, and Torsten Baggendorf completing the top 5. Stefan Schulz is only one leg away from the overall victory now!

Orca 17.5 Stock

Schmid takes full advantage in A1 as TQ Reile struggles off the line

Dominik Reile started from the best spot on the grid – the pole position. But he had some serious trouble with his car being a little loose in the first lap. He lost his position to Kevin Schmid and Jasmin Donath and dropped back to third place. Kevin Schmid was leading the race (for the first time at the ETS), and Jasmin Donath was following in striking distance. It was a typical “no mistakes allowed” situation, and Schmid showed strong nerves until the end of the run.
Reile closed up to Donath in the closing stages of the race but was not able to attack Jasmin`s car directly in front of him as there simply was no chance given from the young lady. Kevin Schmid crossed the line in first place and has a good chance for the remaining two finals on Sunday morning.

ToniSport 40+ Masters

Great racing from Mateo and Stankowitz with better ending for the Spaniard in A1

Manuel Stankowitz and top qualifier Toni Mateo showed some thrilling racing in the first A-Main of the ToniSport 40+ Masters class. Toni Mateo had a “medium” start into the race and Stankowitz had to be careful to not get in touch with Mateo`s car. After that, Toni Mateo showed strong nerves and was able to hold off a hard pushing Manuel Stankowitz for the entire run. In the last lap, they went almost side by side and Mateo crossed the timing loop 0.087 seconds in front of Stankowitz.
Thomas Wegmann and Joe Streff took fourth and fifth ahead of Frank Fuchs who had a strong race from 11th on the grid (bump up driver) to 5th position.

Scorpion Formula

Business as usual as Ratheisky takes the first A-Main

Jan Ratheisky was in control of A1 in the Scorpion Formula class. Luka Jovicic was on almost the same pace, but Ratheisky didn`t make one single mistake while leading the race. Jovicic lost a bit of ground in the middle of the run but was able to come closer to Ratheisky in the last 30 seconds of the race again. But it was not enough for him to push Ratheisky into a driving error. Andreas Stiebler was also pushing with his Schumacher car and took third place in the first of three A-Mains. Gergö Valent and Michal Wojcik rounded out the top 5 on Saturday evening.

ETS Q3 + Q4 Report RD4 Season #15 2022/23

0

Some fantastic sessions of Qualifying are over here at ETS RD4 in Luxembourg. All TQ`s are decided and all A-Main spots (excluding Bump Up`s) are booked. In our combined report, you can find out what happened in Q3 and Q4 during the fourth round of ETS Season #15 2022/23. The first complete round and half of the second of finals will be on the line this afternoon, before we will round up our event Sunday.

Matrix Modified

Urbain seals his first ever TQ at the Euro Touring Series

Q3 – When the cars started into the top heat of Matrix Modified qualifying, it was clear that Lucas Urbain will do everything to bring home another win to seal the overall TQ here in Luxembourg. After lap 1 he was in the lead by 0.7 seconds and didn`t look back. He took full advantage out of his new set of tires and made sure that his best qualifying result at the ETS never got into danger anymore. Behind Urbain, Jan Ratheisky was also on new tires and drove to a brilliant second place for the round. Marc Rheinard (Awesomatix) and Ronald Völker (Mugen Seiki) took third and fourth (both on used tires), right ahead of Remí Callens (Mugen Seiki) in fifth position. Congratulations to Lucas Urbain for his first ever ETS pole position – the fight for second on the grid will be all between Rheinard, Völker, and Ratheisky in Q4.

Q4 – After the TQ was already decided after three rounds of qualifying, the game was on between Rheinard, Völker, and Ratheisky for second on the grid. Völker posted the fastest opening lap of the race before Urbain made a small mistake dropping him back to the middle of the pack. Meanwhile, Marc Rheinard found himself on top of the board and was able to win the last heat of Matrix Modified qualifying with his Awesomatix A800MMX. Ronald Völker finished second and was 1.6 seconds behind Rheinard as he crossed the finish line. Yannic Prümper, Robert Pietsch, and Michele Manzo completed the top 5 in Q4. The grid is now set, and it is a big chance for Lucas Urbain to win his first ever ETS race. Can he make it happen? We will find out about it very soon!

TQ Lucas Urbain was very happy with his result. Asked about the finals he said:

I tried to make it 4 out of 4 in qualifying just for the glory, but I was pushing too hard and made a mistake. For the finals, my plan is to get off the line and open a gap in the first laps of the race. If I can do it, I will try to manage the gap to the finish line afterwards. If I need to fight, I am ready even if I know that I have two former world champions hunting me down. I am looking forward so let`s bring it on!

Lucas Urbain (FR) Awesomatix/Orca

Second place starter Marc Rheinard told us after Q4:

The last one was good and brought me to second on the grid which is very important. Lucas was very fast all weekend long and he deserved the TQ a lot. However, I will try to stay close to him and if there will be a chance I will attack for sure. My car feels good and racy so I am well prepared for the finals.

Marc Rheinard (DE) Awesomatix/Orca

Read what third qualifier Ronald Völker told our media team:

We will do a bigger setup change to the car now as it started to push a lot in today`s qualifying runs. I hope that we can figure this out and I think third place on the grid is not perfect but on the other side it can be the best place to be if something happens in the front. If so, I will be there!

Ronald Völker (DE) Mugen Seiki/LRP

Here is, how the drivers will line up for the Matrix Modified A-Main
(Bump up driver to be decided in the first B-Main).

Awesomatix ProStock

Lauter to start from the “sweet spot” in triple Pro Stock A-Mains

Q3 – Jan Ratheisky (Xray) was leading the third round of qualifying until the last lap and everything looked about a TQ run for Jan. But Simon Lauter (Awesomatix A800MMX) was very close in the last lap and when the cars crossed the finish line it was Simon`s name on top of the board. He took the win in the last lap by 0.084 of a second from Ratheisky.
Olivier Bultynck, Louis Kretschmer, and Lukas Ellerbrock completed the top 5 in the third round of Awesomatix Pro Stock qualifying at ETS RD4 in Luxembourg. The TQ will go to the Awesomatix team – that`s for sure now. The decision will be between the teammates Olivier Bultynck and Simon Lauter, and it will come down to the line in the last round of qualifying.

Q4 – As Q4 of the Awesomatix Pro Stock class started, the pressure on Lauter and Bultynck was very high as both drivers still had the chance for the overall TQ. But it was Max Mächler who was leading the race from lap 1 to the finish line with a perfect, very fast and clean run. His A800MMX looked “dialed” and Max moved up to third on the grid with this TQ run in the final qualifier. Simon Lauter will start from pole position with Olivier Bultynck in second place. Louis Kretschmer lines up fourth and completes two “all Awesomatix A800MMX” front rows before Jan Ratheisky will line up his Xray car in fifth position.

Here is, how the drivers will line up for the Awesomatix Pro Stock A-Main
(Bump up driver to be decided in the first B-Main).

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Untouchable Schulz grabs the TQ in Luxembourg after sweeping qualifying

Q3 – Stefan Schulz is on a mission here at ETS RD4 in Luxembourg. He took another dominant win in the third qualifier and has already booked the best place on the grid for the triple A-Mains. Schulz not only drove the fastest lap in Q3 (24.475), he also was able to put 2.5 seconds between his Xray car and the rest of the field. A dominant performance from our reigning champion in the Hobbywing Frontwheel class. Steven Olsen took second for the round and moved up to P3 in the overall rankings after a slow start into qualifying on Friday. Jacques Libar, Roman Borschel, and Sören Sparbier completed the top 5. The TQ is decided, but the fight for the remaining spots on the 10 car grid is still wide open in Q4.

Q4 – We saw another TQ run from Xray driver Stefan Schulz in the last round of Frontwheel qualifying. Steven Olsen and Roman Borschel had a great fight for second position with the better ending for Olsen. Kevin Sparbier and Max Weffers rondet out the top five while “the voice of RC”, Scotty Ernst, made it into the A-Main of the Hobbywing Frontwheel class here in Luxembourg too!

Here is, how the drivers will line up for the Hobbywing Frontwheel A-Main
(Bump up driver to be decided in the first B-Main).

Orca 17.5 Stock

Three different TQ drivers while overall pole position goes to Reile

Q2 – The second round of Orca 17.5 Qualifying was shifted to Saturday morning to offer some “last minute arriving racers” the chance to run at least three rounds of qualifying. Dominik Reile, who won the opening round on Friday, took another win in Q2 with his Awesomatix A800MMX (fastest lap 21.574). Kevin Schmid was his hardest contender in this heat and finished second for the round (fastest lap 21.618) with Jasmin Donath taking another third spot (fastest lap 21.589). Daniel Pöhlmann and Joshua Winkler completed the top 5 in this round of Orca 17.5 Stock qualifying.

Q3 – Kevin Schmid was right on point in the third round of qualifying. He took the win with a gap of 3 seconds from Dominik Ruf, Joshua Winkler, and Jasmin Donath. Daniel Pöhlmann completed the top 5 in the third round, and we will see the decision for the overall TQ in Q4. Kevin Schmid`s TQ run was faster compared to the two previous wins from Reile so Schmid has a serious chance for pole position as well now!

Q4 – The last qualifier was the decider for the overall TQ. Reile already had two wins to his favour, but also Kevin Schmid was hoping for a second TQ run. The top heat was very close and intense, and it was ETS RD3 winner Jasmin Donath who finally got into a perfect rhythm as she crossed the finish line in first place ahead of Joshua Winkler and Daniel Pöhlmann. Now, the grid is set, and we can expect great fights between all the drivers in the upcoming triple A-Mains here in Luxembourg.

Here is, how the drivers will line up for the Orca 17.5 Stock A-Main
(Bump up driver to be decided in the first B-Main).

ToniSport 40+ Masters

Mateo earns hard fought pole position in the Masters class

Q3- In the ToniSport 40+ Masters class it was Toni Mateo from Gran Canaria who was on the best pace in Q3 on early Saturday morning. Toni took the win in a very close heat where the top four only being separated by 0.654 of a second after the complete runtime of five minutes. Ulrich Dinger, Thomas Wegmann, and Mirco Thalheimer all had the pace for a TQ run in their package, but now it is Toni Mateo with the best chances for pole position. The decision for the TQ will come down to Q4 between Mateo and Q1 winner Manuel Stankowitz who is the only driver who can snatch it away from Mateo in the last minute.

Q4 – Toni Mateo had the best chances for pole position, and he didn`t miss this chance in Q4. He took the win by half a second ahead of Manuel Stankowitz and Michel Zierold. Ulrich Dinger and Mirco Thalheimer completed the top 5 in the last qualifier and everybody is now looking forward to the finals of the ToniSport 40+ Masters class here at the Mini Circuit “Ville de Luxembourg”.

Here is, how the drivers will line up for the ToniSport 40+ Masters A-Main
(Bump up driver to be decided in the first B-Main).

Scorpion Formula

Ratheisky to start on pole in the finals

Q3 – Jan Ratheisky will start from pole position into the triple A-Mains of the Scorpion Formula class. He took another win in Q3 to make it 3 out of 3. We call this a “clean sweep” in the world of RC!
Behind TQ Ratheisky and his Xray car, world champion Andreas Stiebler posted the second fastest time with his Schumacher Icon2. Michal Wojcik, Luka Jovicic, and Alexander Bremer completed the top 5. With Ratheisky now on pole position it will be very difficult for his contenders to overtake “the master of formula racing” in the A-Mains. But as Stiebler and Jovicic are also very fast here in Luxembourg we can hope for some great action on track!

Q4 – Nothing new in the last round of Formula qualifying. Jan Ratheisky took his fourth consecutive win ahead of Luka Jovicic and Andreas Stiebler. Gergö Valent and Michal Wojcik completed the top 5. Ratheisky looked very dominant in qualifying and now it is about him to bring home the overall win in the upcoming A-Mains.

Here is, how the drivers will line up for the Scorpion Formula A-Main
(Bump up driver to be decided in the first B-Main).

ETS Q1 + Q2 Report, RD4 Season #15 2022/23

0

The first two rounds of qualifying here in Luxembourg are completed. As everybody expected, the racing was intense, close, and thrilling through all classes. Let`s find out who scored the best results on Friday afternoon on the very demanding and spectacular Mini Circuit “Ville de Luxembourg”.

Matrix Modified

Ballistic Urbain ahead of the field in Luxembourg

Q1 – The first Matrix Modified qualifier was a close one. Lucas Urbain (Awesomatix) started first into the heat after he was fastest in seeding practice. Lucas was leading the race all the time in front of Ronald Völker (Mugen Seiki) and Marc Rheinard. Lucas looked very comfortable out there while Völker and Rheinard had to push very hard to follow him as close as possible. Lucas Urbain drove a 17.063 lap time – the fastest we have ever seen here on track at a 1:10 scale electric race. He mentioned before the run, that also nobody had ever laid down an 18-lap run during a racing event. Now, the job is done as the top 4 (!) all made it into lap 18.
In the end, Urbain took the win from Völker by 0.56 seconds with Rheinard in third position. Yannic Prümper took P4 for Yokomo while Remí Callens had a great run with his Mugen Seiki car to take P5 in the opening qualifier of the Matrix Modified class.

Q2 – Lucas Urbain continued where he stopped in Q1 – leading and winning the heat! Lucas was on fire with his A800MMX and took the win with another (even faster) 18 lap run. Marc Rheinard took second place while Ronald Völker stopped his Mugen Seiki car after flipping it on a curb in the fast chicane in front of the driver stand. Until this happened, the positions between Marc and Ronald changed a lot of times and they had a close fight for second with Yannic Prümper also being in the mix. The top 5 finishing order was Lucas Urbain (Awesomatix), Marc Rheinard (Awesomatix), Yannic Prümper (Yokomo), Jan Ratheisky (Xray), and Loic Jasmin (Yokomo). Robert Pietsch had some tough luck as he also was on a top 4 run before he had to stop his car with some electronical issues.
With 2 out of 2 it was a perfect day for Urbain and our media team talked to him on Friday evening:

What a day! I was fastest in free practice, controlled practice, and I won the first two rounds of qualifying. I didn`t even expect that but for sure I am very confident and happy now. My car was not perfect in Q1 and I had to drive very cautious, but in Q2 I was very confident when I noticed that I already had a small gap after the first three laps. I tried to manage the gap to the end and it worked out even as Marc had a great pace too.

Lucas Urbain (FR) Awesomatix, Orca

Asked about his day, Marc Rheinard (second on Friday evening) told us right after Q2:

I lost a bit of time in the opening laps of Q1 and had to take third for the round. The second round was a lot better and I was able to drive the fastest lap of the race as well. Lucas is very fast here, but tomorrow I will try everything to get myself into the position to fight for the win in the Finals. My Awesomatix worked fine and I am also happy with the feeling of the Orca power in my car.

Marc Rheinard (DE) Awesomatix/Orca

Third overall on Friday, Ronald Völker had the following statement for us:

I had a solid first qualifier and scored good points with P2. The second run didnt went to my plans. I had to push hard to try to catch Lucas (Urbain), but it was a little too much and I flipped in the fast chicane in the infield section. My LRP powered Mugen car was a little “too good” in the first lap and started to understeer afterwards. I will discuss that with the team and we will make some small adjustments for tomorrows remaining qualifiers.

Ronald Völker (DE) Mugen Seiki/LRP

Awesomatix ProStock

TQ runs from Lauter and Bultynck on Friday afternoon

Q1 – The first round of Awesomatix Pro Stock qualifying went to favour of Simon Lauter and his Awesomatix A800MMX. But it was not an easy win for Simon as Louis Kretschmer and top seed Olivier Bultynck had been on a very similar pace during the entire run. In the beginning, Louis Kretschmer was leading the race (fastest lap of the heat 19.341) and it took a while until Simon`s name was popping off on top of the board. When the drivers finished the race, the top three had been separated by 0.149 of a second only. It was high class Pro Stock racing here in Luxembourg – exactly what everybody expected. Frederik Mikkelsen and Max Mächler completed the top 5 before the first non Awesomatix racer Lars Hoppe finished in 6th place.

Q2 – Olivier Bultynck (Awesomatix) was able to strike back in the second round of Awesomatix Pro Stock qualifying. He was fighting hard for this win on track against his teammates Simon Lauter and Louis Kretschmer, but in the end, he was able to bring home a very important TQ run. With Lauter`s time from Q1 being slightly faster, he is sitting in first position overnight in front of Bultynck, Kretschmer, Mikkelsen, and Libar. The decision for the Tq and all A-Main spots will come down to Q3 ad Q4 on Saturday morning!

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Strong Friday from Schulz as he got two TQ runs to his favour

Q1 – Stefan Schulz took Q1 of the Hobbywing Frontwheel class on Friday afternoon. He had a perfect run with his Xray car and had an advantage of 1.7 seconds as he crossed the scoring and timing loop after 5 minutes. Behind Schulz, it was a three-horse race between Jacques Libar, Roman Borschel and Sören Sparbier as they took second, third, and fourth place. Steven Olsen posted the fifth fastest time but was some seconds behind the leading drivers. Stefan Schulz also posted the fastest lap of the heat (24.225) and was very happy with his first qualifier.

Q2 – It was again Stefan Schulz who was the fastest driver on track. Jacques Libar took another second place, but he was not able to fight for the win as the gap to Schulz was far too big with 3.5 seconds. Behind Schulz and Libar, a much-improved Steven Olsen (Awesomatix A800FX Evo) had a solid run to third place overall. Sören Sparbier and Torsten Baggendorf finished in the top 5 of the second qualifier as well. Stefan Schulz is now only one heat win away from sealing the overall pole position here at the Mini Circuit “Ville de Luxembourg” and that will be his target for tomorrow morning`s Q3 of the Hobbywing Frontwheel class.

Orca 17.5 Stock

Reile TQ`s first round of Orca 17.5 Stock qualifying as Q2 got shifted to Saturday morning

Q1 – In the first round of qualifying, Dominik Reile was able to take full advantage of a clear track in front of him. Reile was able to open a gap of 2.5 seconds over the rest of the field and was in a world of his own in Q1. Joshua Winkler and Jasmin Donath had the same overall runtime (which is extremely rare) which meant them both getting the points for second position in Q1. Kevin Schmid and Niclas Storm rounded out the top 5 in a very close first qualifier.

Q2 – Round 2 of qualifying in the Orca 17.5T Stock class will take place on Saturday morning!

ToniSport 40+ Masters

Stankowitz and Mateo both scoring a TQ run on Friday in Luxembourg

Q1 – We saw a very close opening round of 40+ Masters qualifying between top seed Toni Mateo and Manuel Stankowitz. In the end, Manuel Stankowitz was able to TQ the first heat with a gap of .03 seconds from Toni Mateo. Mirco Thalheimer was also in the mix for the win in this round, posted the fastest lap of the heat, and crosser the line in third place. Michel Zierlod and Joe Streff took 4th and 5th for the round.

Q2 – After Toni Mateo had to deal with a second place in Q1 behind Manuel Stankowitz, he was able to improve by one position in Q2 to take the win for the round. Ulrich Dinger and Thomas Wegmann had a great run as well as they took second and third place ahead of Mirco Thalheimer in fourth place. Ronald Arts and Joe Streff finished fifth and sixth for the round with their times coming from the second fastest qualifying group.

Scorpion Formula

Ratheisky overnight TQ at ETS Luxembourg after a perfect Friday

Q1 – Jan Ratheisky (Xray) took a very close opening round of Formula qualifying ahead of Andreas Stiebler (Schumacher) and Luka Jovicic (Libar Engineering). The trio was battling it out during the entire 5 minutes and Ratheisky was the lucky guy winning the heat 0.25 seconds ahead of Stiebler with Jovicic another second back. Michal Wojcik and Robert Kampehl took a fourth and fifth place in the first qualifier.

Q2 – The second round of qualifying was a copy of the first one – with the overall runtimes being some seconds faster compared to Q1. Jan Ratheisky took the win in front of Luka Jovicic and Andreas Stiebler and is our overnight TQ at ETS Rd4. But as a famous racer once said: “TQ overnight – no delight”.
Jan needs one more perfect run to seal the pole position with his Xray car and he will aim for that tomorrow morning in Q3 of the Scorpion Formula class. Michal Wojcik and Gergö Valent completed the top 5 here on Friday evening in Luxembourg.

Controlled Practice

The qualifying heats are set here in Luxembourg after two rounds of controlled practice. Qualifying is up next, and it will be time to find out what everybody can do over 5 minutes on track. Today we will see two complete rounds of qualifying for everybody, before the third round will take place on Saturday morning. The Orca 17.5 Stock class will run only one qualifier today, and three rounds on Saturday. The reason for that are some drivers of this class arriving here on Friday evening and the ETS family likes to offer them the best chances in qualifying as well.

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Serpent driver Sparbier on top after controlled practice in Luxembourg

In the Hobbywing Frontwheel class we saw Sören Sparbier on top. He had a great fight at the last ETS race in Andernach (GER) with race winner Freddy Südhoff, and he is on a real good pace here again. Sören was laying down the fastest three consecutive laps in the second round of seeding practice and he will lead the strong field of FWD drivers into qualifying.
Behind Sparbier we saw Roman Borschel, local racer Lacques Libar, reigning champion Stefan Schulz, and Torsten Baggendorf in the top 5. With the start of qualifying the tension will step up to a different level and it seems that the top 4 drivers are in a great form to fight for pole position.

The Top 5 after controlled practice (3 consecutive laps)
