ETS Q2 Report RD5 Season #14 2021/22

0

The second round of qualifying here in Daun is completed. Find out what happened here on Friday evening and on early Saturday morning at the Sporthotel Grafenwald in the beautiful Eifel region!

Matrix Modified

Rheinard takes early morning Q2 at ETS RD5

Awesomatix driver Marc Rheinard was able to fight back against Mugen`s Ronald Völker this morning. Marc came short in Q1 by just 0.125 seconds, but in Q2 he was able to turn things around to his favour by winning the heat with a gap of 0.065 seconds ahead of Ronald. The race was very close and Völker was leading in the first laps. Then Rheinard took over the lead and stretched it to 0.5 seconds before Völker closed again to take the lead in the last minute. But Rheinard had the better pace in the penultimate lap where he gained back almost three tenths over Völker – enough to win this thrilling round of Qualifying in the Matrix Modified class.
Behind Rheinard and Völker it was Lucas Urbain taking a strong third place with his Awesomatix car. Yokomo`s Christopher Krapp finished fourth and ToniSport`s Dominic Vogl had a great run to P5 with his Awesomatix car in the second fastest group.

We asked round 2 TQ Marc Rheinard about his run:

I expected Q2 to be as intense as Q1 was yesterday, and it was exactly like this. This time I had the better ending on my side, and I am happy about my TQ run. My Orca powered Awesomatix worked flawless and once again it was just about laying down a clean run. Now the TQ is wide open and I will aim to take it!

Marc Rheinard, Awesomatix/Orca

Second placed Ronald Völker had the following words to say after Q2:

At the beginning I drove carefully and after Marc had taken the lead, I pushed a little harder. Once it paid off and I could close the gap again but as we all had been on the absolute limit it was not easy to push that hard until the end. My Mugen Seiki car felt very good and my LRP power package is on point as well. It was a very close result, and I am looking forward to Q3!

Ronald Völker, Mugen Seiki/LRP

Our reporter had a quick chat with French driver Lucas Urbain after he took 3rd place in Q2:

After my start into qualifying was not that good yesterday, my goal was to have a clean run and I drove a bit defensive. In some laps my lines have not been perfect, but at the end of the run I was really surprised by the pace I had. It was a solid third place and I will try to close the gap to the front in the next round. The lightweight body shell I prepared overnight really helped me to get that little bit of extra performance out of my Awesomatix car!

Lucas Urbain, Awesomatix/Orca

Xray ProStock

Lauter, Kunkler and Kilic the top 3

Simon Lauter took another win in Q2 here on Saturday morning in the Xray Pro Stock class. The Awesomatix driver outpaced his teammate Alex Kunkler by 1.7 seconds and is vers close to seal the overall TQ here in Daun. Behind Lauter and Kunkler it was Mugen driver Berkan Kilic in third place. A great result for him after his second place in yesterday’s opening qualifier. Frederik Mikkelsen and Louis Kretschmer rounded out the top 5 in Q2 of the Xray Pro Stock class.

Simon Lauter after Q2:

My run was almost clinic. I tried to keep it as clean as possible and it worked out fine. My car feels amazing and I enjoy driving it here in Daun. With two TQ runs in the bag I am very confident for the rest of the weekend as I will start from second place in the worst case now.

Simon Lauter, Awesomatix/LRP

Alex Kunkler told us after his second place in Q2:

To be honest, I am super happy with my result. After I struggled in the opening qualifier yesterday evening, I had to deliver something here in Q2. I used my second set of tires which felt a little bit better on track and in Q3 I will attack a bit harder to score another good number of points!

Alex Kunkler, Awesomatix/Ruddog

Orca 17.5 Stock

Pöhlmann fastest in second round of qualifying

Outgoing champion Daniel Pöhlmann took the second round of qualifying in the Orca 17.5 Stock class here at ETS RD5 in Daun. After Dominik Reile won the first heat, Pöhlmann showed that he is on point as well as he won the second qualifier with a gap of 0.6 seconds ahead of Alexander Müller.
Dominik Reile posted the fastest lap of the race (15.935), but had to take a third place for the round after he lost 3.5 seconds of time in lap number 10. Without this, his runtime would have been good enough for another TQ run but in the end he couldn`t make it happen. Title contender Thomas Bemmerl and Dominik Ruf rounded out the top 5.

ETS Q1 Report RD5 Season #14 2021/22

0

The first of four rounds of qualifying here at ETS RD5 is in the books. Whenever we head into Q1 at an ETS race, you always can feel that it is “game on” from this moment on. The tension in the sports hall of the Sporthotel Grafenwald in Daun had reached the boiling point on Friday afternoon after all the rounds of free and controlled practice. We saw thrilling fights against the clock while everybody was racing for a first countable result of the weekend.

Matrix Modified

Völker takes intense Q1 in Daun

We saw a close finish in RD1 of qualifying in the Matrix Modified class here at ETS RD5 in Daun. Mugen Seiki`s Ronald Völker, who started third into the heat, crossed the line with a small margin of 0.125 seconds ahead of Awesomatix Marc Rheinard. During the whole runtime they were separated between 0.1 to 0.6 seconds all the time with the better end for Völker. The intensity was clearly visible for all spectators, and it once again was a great heat to watch.
Behind Völker and Rheinard, Yokomo`s Christopher Krapp finished in third position. Krapp showed a great pace in seeding practice, but somehow, he was not able to keep it up here in Q1, with P3 still being a very good result for the start of qualifying. Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) and Antoine Brunet (Xray) completed the top 5 on Friday afternoon in Q1 of the Matrix Modified class.

Our media team talked to round one TQ Ronald Völker shortly after the race:

I remember that it was tough to drive here in Daun two years ago, and that didn`t change. It was a very intense and challenging Q1 and the changes we made on my shock package worked out fine. This change for sure helped to walk away with the overnight TQ which always is a great way to start into qualifying. I expect it will be that tough in all upcoming races until the end of the weekend!

Ronald Völker, Mugen Seiki/LRP
Friday-Qualifying-RD5S14-Daun-GER-00836

Marc Rheinard told us about his run to P2:

Overall, it was a good and solid run bit in the end I came short by that 0.1 second. My car felt a little loose in the rear and my driving was not 100% on point in some laps. There is something to improve for sure, but I am optimistic as my car gets even better when the tires are getting older from run to run!

Marc Rheinard, Awesomatix, Orca

Third placed Christopher Krapp commented his run in our media centre as well:

I am not so happy with my result – even P3 is not a bad start into qualifying. I made some setup changes and expected them to work different as they did. For tomorrow mornings Q2 I will go back to my setup from the seeding practice. The pace is there and I will attack even more.

Christopher Krapp, Yokomo/Racing Performer

Xray ProStock

Lauter TQ`s the first round ahead of Kilic and Mächler

In the Xray Pro Stock class it was Simon Lauter taking maximum points in Q1. After he made a mistake in lap 2, he was able to recover from his 2 second loss to take the win. Behind Lauter, Mugen Seiki`s Berkan Kilic finished second with Max Mächler (Awesomatix) in third place. We saw a lot of small crashes from some of the drivers during the heat which once again showed the track`s level of difficulty. Alex Kunkler (Awesomatix) and Frederik Mikkelsen (Awesomatix)  finished fourth and fifth for the round.

Simon Lauter (Awesomatix) had to say the following after Q1:

In the second lap I made a mistake in the left part of the track which was completely my fault. After that I was driving “flat out” and luckily, I was able to recover from that with many other drivers also made mistakes during the run. This track here in Daun is not forgiving any mistakes and tomorrow morning I will try to keep my run as clean as possible.

Simon Lauter, Awesomatix/LRP

Second placed Berkan Kilic (Mugen Seiki) was confident with his result too and reported about his Q1:

My goal was to lay down a clean, safe and fast run – really not easy but in the end it worked out for me. With this good number of points in the bag I will try to attack in tomorrows three rounds of qualifying. A good starting position is always nice, and we will see where I will be when qualifying is over!

Behind him, Steven Olsen finished second – a very important result for him to keep his title chances alive. Sören Sparbier booked a third place with Alexander Stocker and Sebastian Meibörg completing the top 5.

We asked RD1 TQ Meik Niemann about his run:

My FWD car was sooo good and I really enjoyed to drive with it on the track. I was able to fully concentrate on my driving lines and in the end it was a really good result for me. I will try to keep up the pace as I really would like to start on pole position.

Asked about his TQ run, Ulrich Dinger said:

For sure I was a little lucky in Q1 as some others crashed during the run. But in the end I am happy to book a TQ run. For the next round I don`t plan any changes and I will just try to keep it nice and easy on the track.

Controlled Practice at the Sporthotel Grafenwald

The controlled practice sessions here in Daun have been very close between the top drivers in all ETS classes. This carpet track seems to be a real beast, and no mistakes are allowed if you want to finish on a top spot. Compared to the seeding practice where you only need three good laps, the upcoming qualifying heats will be totally different. Find out about the seeding practice results at ETS RD5 Season #14 2021/22 at the Sporthotel Grafenwald in Daun/GER.

Matrix Modified

He drove the fastest three consecutive laps in the timed practice sessions and earned himself the best starting position for Q1. Yokomo`s Christopher Krapp will start second into the four qualifiers with Mugen Seiki`s Ronald Völker in third and right now, it is looking like we can expect a close fight for the overall TQ between them. Lucas Urbain (Awesomatix) and Yannic Prümper (Yokomo) made it into the top 5 as well ant they will push hard behind the leaders to score good points in Q1.

We talked to top seed Marc Rheinard on Friday afternoon – here is what he told us:

My car worked great directly from the start of the event. The free practice sessions helped us a lot to try some stuff and we know how to deal with the track conditions at the moment. But for qualifying, the key factor will be clean driving as the track is not an easy one to handle. No mistakes are allowed but I am very confident and happy with my Orca powered Awesomatix!

Marc Rheinard, Awesomatix/Orca

Yokomo`s Christopher Krapp also had a quick talk with our media team:

I think everybody will see the biggest challenge in not making any mistakes on this track. I was fast over the three laps but I need to improve my consistency for the whole run just a little bit. My Yokomo car is super good here and my Racing Performer power package works amazing as well. I am looking forward to qualifying and I am ready to rumble!

Christopher Krapp, Yokomo/Racing Performer

Mugen Seiki`s Ronald Völker also stopped at our media office – here is what he told us:

We will do some small setup changes to my Mugen Seiki MTC2 for Q1 to make it more easy in the chicane. Otherwise it`s going well and I am happy with the pace over 5 minutes. I am looking forward to fight for the win here in Daun.

Asked about his expectations for qualifying, top seed Simon Lauter told us:

The day went very well for me and my Awesomatix car is feeling very good on track. Kunki (Alex Kunkler) is also very, very fast and in my opinion, the most important key for success will be clean runs as the track is a big challenge for everybody over the 5 minutes!

Hobbywing Frontwheel

Niemann with a strong performance in seeding practice

Meik Niemann showed a ballistic performance here during the seeding practice in Daun. Compared to his rivals, he was one second faster on his three consecutive laps which is a real statement! Steven Olsen is still doing everything he can to keep his championship chances alive and he will start from second into qualifying. It will not be easy to keep up with Niemann`s strong pace but qualifying is a different task and Olsen is always driving very consistent. Jonas Völker, Sören Sparbier and Sebastian Meibörg completed the top 5 in seeding practice.

Meik Niemann had a quick chat with our reporter:

I had a very good day, and my result is looking strong so far. Compared to the last race in Neumünster I am running a carbon fibre chassis plate in my Awesomatix FWD car which worked very good here on track. I know that the other guys will try to catch me in qualifying, and over 5 minutes I don`t expect my advantage to be as big as it was now over the three fastest laps. But I will give my best and then we will see what will happen!

ETS Free Practice Report RD5 Season #14 2021/22

Free practice in Daun

ETS RD5 in Daun started with the usual free practice on Thursday. The track in Daun is very challenging, caused by the very special track dimensions here in the “Tennis Sports Hall” of the Sporthotel Grafenwald. After the first round of free practice, the ETS team changed some small details on the track which caused a lot of crashes. They created a bigger distance between the curbs and the white barriers to make the track more forgiving. Almost every racer who has signed up for the race took the chance to participate in the 5 rounds of free practice in groups. On early Friday morning there will be another two rounds of free practice, followed by two seeding rounds to set up the qualifying heats. On Friday evening we will see the first shakedown in round one of Qualifying at ETS RD5. But now, find out about the early pace of your favourite drivers in our short free practice report!

Dear ETS Family,

the current season #14 of our beloved Euro Touring Series is still underway, but today we like to inform you about a little surprise for our upcoming race in Daun!

We are still going through difficult times as Covid-19 is not finally over. We all had a lot of trouble in the last 2 years but we managed to organzie at least some ETS races which we all enjoyed a lot. Without your support and your trust in our work and the Euro Touring Series that all would never have been possible. YOU ARE AMAZING!

To say THANK YOU once again, the ETS crew decided to print some nice designed ETS Season #14 T-Shirts which we will hand out to every racer who will be in Daun. The Shirt looks super nice and we hope that you wll be happy about this special gift from us.
We have taken the T-Shirt sizes from your data in MyRCM as our reference, and we hope that everybody will get the right one from us!
Fort he next season we hope to bring back the well-known ETS T-Shirts with all our sponsors on, but for now we are really stoked about this very special ETS Season #14 2021/22 T-Shirt.

You can pick up your shirt in Daun and we hope to see many of you wearing it at one day throughout the event as we will take pictures from everybody for sure!

ETS Track Check Daun, GER RD5 Season #14 2021/22

0

Next stop for the Euro Touring Series is the Sporthotel Grafenwald in the small village of Daun, GER. The huge hotel complex is located in the large forests of the Eifel region, only 20km away from the famous Nürburgring. It is the fourth time for the ETS circus at this venue after the first race 2018, followed by two more in 2019 and 2020.
We always saw high numbers of registrations in Daun, making this event one of the most popular ones of the year. This time we are happy to welcome almost 300 racers in Daun who signed up for our six ETS racing classes!

This year`s track layout

Building a track is not so difficult. But building a “perfect track” is more than difficult. The ETS crew always has the goal to create an amazing track for the racers to guarantee maximum racing action and fun during the weekend. Therefore, everything needs to be in good shape. New carpet gets rolled out always at the ETS and needs hundreds of meters of double-sided tape and hot liver to get fixed on the floor perfectly.
After the carpet is in place, it is time for putting the layout on it. The well known ETS curbs are perfect for carpet racing and the crew always tries to build a track which is challenging for every class, without being too hard to the car`s in case of crashes. This year, Tobias Baumbach and Marc Rheinard invested a lot of time and work to built up the track on Tuesday – thank you for this amazing job guys !
Due to the T-Shape of the hall in Daun, we always see a very special and unconventional layout. The main straight is always directly in front of the driver stand, followed by a technical infield. One of the biggest challenges in Daun is the area of the track on the opposite side of the rostrum. In this corner, the cars are driving away and then back towards the drivers into the “normal” section of the track again. Drivers must get used to the visibility of their car on track during the practice sessions on Thursday to be prepared when the controlled practice starts.

Winners from the past

The special track layout always was a huge challenge for the drivers here in Daun, and we saw amazing RC racing all the time. The atmosphere in the full packed sports hall was always very intense, especially when it came down to the A-Main finals to decide the winners at the Sporthotel Grafenwald.

The rumors that popped up in one place or another are true. After we saw a voting result with 70% of people voting for ETS RD6 in Neumünster, we will open the registration for this race on Tuesday, 01.02.2022.

We counted a lot of votes, and we think that we can rely on this result. Chuck`s Raceway in Neumünster hosted ETS RD4 in December and we saw great racing over there.  We really like to organize a great sixth round of ETS Season #14 2021/22 for the whole ETS family.

Thursday Practice

Before we started the voting process about a possible race in Neumünster, we pointed out that we will not have a practice day on Thursday. But after we received many requests for this day of practice, we now decided to offer out free practice day on Thursday. But as always, it is up to every driver to make use of this practice day or not. The main ETS event starts on Friday!
For every driver who will not be able to practice on Thursday, there will be a special practice slot on Friday morning. Only the drivers who were not able to practice on Thursday can practice on the track then as we don`t want anybody having kind of a disadvantage when racing will start. We will talk with all these drivers and organize their practice fair and strict. Please inform us during the registration process on MyRCM if you will practice on Thursday, or if you will join us at least Friday morning!

Registration

We will open the registration on MyRCM on Tuesday, 01.02.2022 at 20:00 MEZ.

We hope for everybody signing up as we would like to welcome you for a great season finale at ETS RD6 at Chuck`s Raceway in Neumünster. We need at least a minimum of 200 drivers at the race so we reserve the right to decide about RD6 to happen, when we see how many entries we will have until the end of February!

Uwe, Scotty and the whole ETS crew!
