Seeding is done, Orlowski is on top – let`s get qualifying underway…

0

The end of seeding practice is always defining the heats for the four rounds of qualifying at the ETS. Here in Daun, two consecutive hot laps are responsible for every driver`s ranking. Having a good three lap pace is giving drivers a lot of confidence before Q1 and therefore everybody was trying to extract the maximum out of their packages on the very demanding racetrack in Daun!

Matrix Modified

Orlowski leads by one thousand of a second from Izsay and Rheinard

The Matrix Modified class was close as always. As only two consecutive hot laps are counting due to the shortened three-minute seeding rounds, the field was even close together. Orlowski`s fastest time was 0.001 (!) faster than the laps of Adam Izsay. Mard Rheinard and Ronald Völker followed in third and fourth spot with Simon Lauter taking fifth position. The top 10 had been separated by 0.265 of a second only but we are sure that this scenario will change a bit in qualifying as the track is very demanding and it will be mandatory to put in absolute clean runs.

The Top 5 after Thursday practice (2 consecutive laps)

1. Michal Orlowski (PL) 23.710 Schumacher|Hobbywing
2. Adam Izsay (HU) Xray 23.711 Xray|Hobbywing
3. Marc Rheinard (DE) 23.764 Awesomatix|ORCA
4. Ronald Völker (DE) 23.800 Mugen Seiki|LRP
5. Simon Lauter (DE) 23.820 Awesomatix | Hobbywing

Rheinard fastest at day 1 of ETS RD5 in Germany

0

Day one at the penultimate round of ETS Season #16 is done. Five rounds of free practice allowed racers to learn the track layout in the famous t-shaped sports hall of Daun. The huge turnout gave drivers enough time to think about setup changes between their runs and at the end of the day we saw everybody getting into the grove.

After the event lost 2 hours of time in the morning due to a power cut, the day was stretched almost until midnight giving racer`s a first taste of the following three long days in Daun. All participants left the track late evening with a lot of excitement for the official start of the evet on Friday. Seeding practice will start early in the morning with two three-minute runs for everybody with the fastest two consecutive laps counting.

Matrix Modified

The Matrix Modified class saw the top dogs going for it. The flowing track was leading to fast lap times (compared to previous Daun track layouts). Awesomatix driver Marc Rheinard was fastest at the end of the day followed by the Schumacher of Michal Orlowski and the Mugen Seiki car of Ronald Völker. With the top three separated by only 0.135 of a second, we all know what to expect from the rest of the weekend. Chrostopher Krapp (Yokomo) was fourth fastest, followed by a very strong Adam Izsay (Xray). The Matrix Modified class is on fire here in Daun and Friday will bring the heat…

ETS Track Check Sporthotel Grafenwald Daun, GER RD5 Season #16 2023/24

0

The fifth round of ETS Season #16 2023/24 is about to start with free practice today. The track crew around Pawel Ntkovca from Race Stars Poland did a great job and prepared an awesome looking track in the sports hall of the Sporthotel Grafenwald in Daun. They worked until 4pm in the night to get everything ready for racing. We also had great help from our ETS racers Sascha Ott and Steve Arendt while laying down the carpet on Tuesday – thank you guys.

The gallery shows many pictures of the track and the construction process. The layout is a little more open and not as complicated as in the last years (on the first view). We are excited to see the cars running on this masterpiece of racetrack in the next 4 days!

Interview with Nadine Zühlke

0

Hi, and thank you for taking the time for us.

ETS: You’ve been driving a front-wheel drive car for two years and have always finished in the top 20 this season. Why did you suddenly switch to a touring car chassis?

Nadine: The switch only came about because I used to drive Torsten’s touring car and I simply enjoy it more.

After your first touring car race, what was your impression and will you stick with it?

I think it’s a shame that the competition in the 21.5 class isn’t that strong. The top two are slightly ahead of 3rd and 4th. Nevertheless, it was a good race and I will continue to take part.

After a few weeks have passed. A P4 from a standing start in the Stock 21.5 class is fantastic, or is the disappointment of missing out on a podium place still greater?

The disappointment is there, of course. But I’m also happy about 4th place. Jan (Petersen) is not a bad driver either 😉

We know that you train regularly in Hasloh. Some of the drivers who have also trained on the track there said that a good placing was definitely on the cards for you. It was also clear that it was a new track in Hann. Münden and that you wouldn’t be able to complete the laps on your usual training track. In which final run did you estimate yourself before Hann. Münden?

Well, as I said, there aren’t that many drivers in the class, so I was actually expecting a good B final place. But of course the ambition is there and you always want to be among the front runners.

If I am correctly informed, you are driving an Awesomatix A800MMX and not an A800R. How has this come, and are you planning an upgrade to the A800R or, for example, a switch to an ARC A10-23 or Iris ONE?

I got the A800MMX for my birthday at the beginning of last year. So I drove that one. However, the A800R is currently on its way to me. ARC or Iris is not an option for me at the moment.

The question is not meant to be a “Me too” question ;=) Do you work on your Awesomatix yourself?

I try to do everything myself, yes. But of course with tips from Torsten or others.

Then: What are your experiences so far as a woman in RC sports? Especially with regard to other women outside of RC who may have reservations.

It’s a shame, of course, that so few women have such a hobby. A few more on the ETS wouldn’t hurt either. But I just think that this hobby will remain more of a “man’s thing”.

For round 5 in Daun, do you have a fixed prctice plan for Hasloh or do you train whenever you can?

There is no fixed training schedule. The weekends are used, of course. Unfortunately, it’s difficult during the week because of work.

We can assume that Tristan and Phil will be battling it out for first place. Will you now turn the anticipated duel between Timo and Tobi into a three-way fight for the remaining podium place? Or will it even be a four-way fight if Jan also races in Daun and Vienna?

I assume you mean the final ranking. I don’t look at these at all, as I’m only doing a maximum of 3 races this season. I don’t know how many races the others have at the end. I want to try to get the best out of it and of course have fun and everything else will follow.

Thanks for being part of the ETS family and we see you in Daun!

5 things to watch at ETS RD5 Season #16 at the Sporthotel Grafenwald in Daun, GER

0

Before we head into our racing weekend, we always give you some interesting things to watch. The sixteenth season of the Euro Touring Series is slowly approaching the home straight, and the penultimate race in Daun is just around the corner. Before the weekend kicks off, we would like to focus on 5 interesting topics for ETS RD5!

1.) Biggest ever turnout in the Hobbywing Frontwheel class

The Hobbywing Frontwheel class is a part of the ETS since 2019. Since the class was implemented, it is a huge success and a pure joy to watch. Champions like Schulz and Izsay have been crowned, and many drivers won their first ETS race in this class (for example: Olsen, Heitsch, Jung, Borschel, Sparbier).

The FWD class is THE class for the ambitioned hobby racer who is just looking for some fun with his friends, but it is also a class for some great competition on top of the field. This upcoming weekend, we will see our biggest turnout ever with 116 entries and we are maximum proud of that. We wish everybody the maximum amount of fun in the FWD class and like to say THANK YOU for your ongoing support!

2.) Yokomo`s newest signing Brunet back at the ETS

In 2021, Antoine Brunet’s star rose in the ETS sky when he finished a sensational second place behind Ronald Völker at Arena33 in Andernach. Bruno Coehlo was unable to take part at the time due to coronavirus travel regulations, and Brunet stepped into the breach and did a sensational job for Xray.

After almost 2 years away from the ETS, Brunet is now back with his new chassis sponsor Yokomo. We are all very excited about him, and especially how he will find his way in his new team with Krapp and Prümper. At last weekend`s GP3F in France, Brunet finished only in the B-Main. We know that he has a great speed and we are sure that he will be a strong asset for Yokomo`s factory team in the future. Welcome back to the ETS Antoine Brunet!

3.) Greiner with first ETS attendance after retiring from nitro racing

One of the best nitro racers of the last 10 years (1 x IFMAR world champion, 3 x EFRA european champion) has announced his retirement from nito racing at the end of 2023 – Dominic Greiner. What sounded like the end of a carreer in the first minute has now turned into Domnic Greiner racing electric touring cars for Serpent. He did some electric races in the past, but never took it really serious as nitro racing was his major approach to RC.

Greiner is practicing and racing electric touring car frequently now and placed his entry for the Matrix Modified class. As we all know about Greiner`s huge talent, we are lookign forward to see him compete against the top drivers of the premiere electric 1:10 scale onroad class. Greiner will need some time to get into the groove, and he will start his electric racing campaign next week in Daun. Welcome to the electric racing family Dominic!

4.) EAM Batteries hitting Europe

EAM, the brand of US racer Eric Anderson is well-known for their range of lipo batteries in the United States. They had many great results at several races, and won the 1:12 scale stock world championships at the end of 2023 with Max Mächler (Awesomatix). Now, the batteries are available in europe with Max Mächler appointed as their team manager and RC Kleinkram as the distributor.

The EAM team has already signed some very good drivers (Olivier Bultynck, Max Mächler), and we are excited to see a new battery brand competing at the ETS. We will check their results again after the race in Daun and inform you about the batteries they used.

5.) Tobi`s Cafeteria – always there for you

Food and Drinks are VERY IMPORTANT at an RC racing event. Especially in Daun, the job of doing the catering is very demanding. With super long days from 6:30 in the morning almost until midnight, it is a hell of a job. Everything must be brought to Daun, and you can imagine how much snacks, meals, coffee, and cold drinks the 370 racers need over the 4 days of the event.

We are more than happy to have ETS racer Tobias Baumbach and his colleague Jörg Buchner caring about us again. Tobias and Jörg are both professional chefs and, as in previous years, they will be preparing good and tasty food for all racers in Daun. Stop by, say hello, and support their trackside cafeteria business as they are really working theia a.. off for us!
